***Official GTAV PC Thread*** [Important warning updated in the OP]

any1 know wt the R9-290 temps shud be below when running this? thx

I have my 290 reference on stock clocks and auto fan.

My temps range anywhere from high 70's to mid 80's and I have periods where it tops out at around 93-95 degrees (usually when I am in a shop for some reason). However fan duty is a maximum of 50% to achieve those temps, so the card is obviously happy otherwise the auto fan would put in more fan RPM's to cool it down.

Nice I just started playing it and it seems to rise bit over 90 degrees shud I be worried? I also go auto fan on which went up to about 64% its read on MSI Afterburner. Thx

Not sure what's happening to my shadows, but if you can imagine, when I move my character, this defined area moves with me. It's almost like I have a 20 foot box around me, inside that box the shadows are rendered correctly, but outside that box, they are what you can see in the pic below. It hasn't been doing this the past 4 or 5 days, its just something that has started now. I've tried reinstalling latest drivers, using default graphic settings in game but nothing sorts this issue out. Its so annoying. I'm running Very High on all settings, I've tried MSAA, FXAA and restored defaults. I verified game integrity in Steam, messed with CCC but nothing cures it. Anyone have any ideas? I cant record it because every time I try recording game footage with Afterburner, my game crashes. DXTory is a no go as well. The only thing I've not done now, is uninstall and reinstall but that's the last thing I wanna do at 60GB

Only a pic from my phone but I just turned the texture details up from Normal to Very High and it's still silky smooth. Why have I been playing on normal for the last 4 days. :( :o :D

Sometimes that is a symptom of running out of VRAM (in a way the game wasn't expecting). Also worth trying changing the shadows between the soft, softer, amd and nvidia options (I'm guessing the nvidia one won't work/won't work properly maybe on an AMD card).

I have to admit I've never really been much of a gta fan over the years, but playing this online with friends has been absolutely amazing the lost couple of day's, a shame the Mrs dragged me away today though :( running like a dream on my 2500k and 970, everything on max it looks amazing!

I am experiencing this too, and a grid pattern on some textures (dithering).:(

I would say 90-95 degrees maximum. The card can tolerate it but it might be worth setting a custom fan profile. On auto my fan never goes above 50% but it is easy to override and even setting to 60% should see a drop in temps.

At the end of the day the card has a thermal cut out function as a fail-safe so if your PC suddenly shuts down for no reason when playing GTA, chances are something got too hot - most likely your 290.

In nearly 15 months of use my 290 has never been above 95 degrees and also never tripped the thermal fail-safe. If you are still hitting 90-95 degrees at 64% fan duty I suggest you should check your case. Is the card dusty? Is your case clean? Have you got enough case fans and is the airflow through the case good? My fan has never been above 50% even when playing the latest games on ultra but I do have a big, well ventilated case (obsidian 750D).

They throttle at 95c so I wouldn't be too bothered but it's cutting it a bit fine I wouldn't happy personally.

The max I have seen on mine is 74c this was middle of the day in a hot bedroom. Usually sits around high 60's.

Wooooo won an online airplane race. Hit every marker like a professional amidst the constant sound of other players crashing. Finished the race and then had to sit there for 20 mins watching the other players fail :(.

It is quite good fun even with randoms. I never seem to see many Ocukers. But I don't have a mic and am still learning the ropes with online so I probably wouldnt be much help in a job lol.
