just how much grunt to game at 4k

A single Titan X at 4k in GTA 5 gives you a really good experience IMHO, admittedly I have a gsync monitor also.

IQ is great and I never experience slow down or stutter, pushed some settings to very high/ultra. But to be clear, no single card will run this game now with every setting at max.

4k and GTX 980 SLI and fine for me. No gsync but if you can get a 4k monitor with Gsync/Freesync it gives you that bit extra smoothness some people crave over.
Surprised this thread is not full of the doom sooth saying brigade which keep mentioning its pointless at 4k gaming.
Nice to see its not.

Messed up part is that if you ask a Negative Nancy if he's using 4k he usually says no.

I don't really care what people say tbh. I would rather game at 4k @ 45 FPS than anything else. Gaming for me had become quite stale if I'm honest. By my age I've pretty much seen it all. But going 4k is like going from dial up to broadband so unless you've actually experienced it for yourself then you should stay quiet.

Looking at the power cables in the streets of GTAV and so on just solidifies the experience. Nothing looks fake or like it doesn't belong.

People buy GPUs so they can get access to better graphics and better looking games. Well, I say that 4k is pretty much about as good as graphics get in this day and age. Sure, there are higher resolutions that will come good over the next few years but for right now 4k is about as good as it gets.

As long as you run some sort of sync then the experience is unmatched. I have a Hackintosh that I use for my day to day stuff as it uses far less power and makes nearly zero noise and that runs 1080p and quite frankly it just looks like a fuzzy mess.

Totally agree Andy, going to 4k created so much detail in the games I play, a noticable improvement over 1200p. Without gsync (or I suspect freesync) it wouldn't be such a great experience though.

yes 4k 1 gtx 980 and most settings on max lol ive been playing it over a week like this never ever have I seen my fps drop to 30. I think it runs fantasic on 1 gtx 980

Playing constantly @ 60 FPS if theres a drop lower than 52-55ish I perceive it. That ofcourse is different to every individual and some people are actually ok with it.

If I see 30 FPS I would just freak out let alone play at that kind of level. That's my personal preference ofcourse.

Is it the 4k2k? I get mins of 38 with it usually sitting in the 40s but I have 2XMSAA enabled and everything absolutely maxed. It was better before the patch though I know that much.

60hz 4k Displayport monitors split the signal into chunks and then put it back together at the monitor end. This is why VSYNC, Gsync and Freesync are so important on 4k monitors. Without it the tearing is atrocious.

yeh acer 4k. only tested quickly in the streets running around shooting dropped to 66 for about a second at 1 point but that was it.

most people who maon about 4k have never used one. Once u'v gone 4k u'll never go back.

For 600 these croffsire 290x's are brilliant

It all depends on the game for me. Racing games and FPS I like 60 FPS minimum. Games like GTAV don't really bother me, as most of the time you're following some one around at walking pace.

I've not got anything in my rig overclocked at the minute either, but will probably do away with the MSAA as I really shouldn't need it.

I regret my 4K screen purchase if I am honest. Looks great of course but there's just too many pixels for my poor 970s to handle (for max settings @ 60 fps without MSAA) :D. Maybe I should get a 3rd but not sure if the SLI scaling will be there not to mention the VRAM limitations.

Using the settings africanos posted I got ~68 fps average in the bench tests and in game occasional dips to low 50s. Not bad but I may tweak a bit as I'm not a fan of the Normal grass setting.

Regret purchasing mine to be fair while there are 1-2 games where the experience is immense I'm far happier overall gaming on the Swift, there are a few productivity tasks where its great as well but when I get around to it its probably going to be replaced by one of the 21:9 panels I've got.

I am running 4k with gtx 980s at ultra settings with x2 msaa, i get an average 45-59 fps but i have noticed it slowing down in some places and it does hit the 4gb vram wall, i'd recommend waiting for 980 ti's as it would provide more longativity.

do you want me to try it with single gpu mode to see how it fares?

A66as i think ull be pleasently surprised just how well it plays in 4k on 1 980.
Most of my settings are maxed but on fxaa and average i get 52fps lowest ive actually ever seen fraps go down to is 38

What do people here think the ideal amount of VRAM for 4K gaming is?

Personally I think that 2GB VRAM for 1080p is not enough now, 3GB is better and 4GB should be enough. Translated to 4K which is 1080p x 4, that means that 8GB is not enough, 12 is OK and 16GB VRAM would be ideal.

Most games 4gb is ok for bad console ports 6 / 8 gb is needed
