Just failed my driving test, tempted to go again quickly

I'm so ****ed off with myself. I failed my driving test this morning. I racked up 5 faults altogether, with two being majors. The majors were:

(1) Failing to follow the curve of the road when approaching a T-junction (turning left); and,

(2) Using the wrong lane at a roundabout (it was one of those massive roundabouts that links an A road and motorway and I used the left hand lane to take the second exit, when the left was for first exit only).

The minors were for control during reverse park, 'undue hesitation' in the 'Progress' category (now quite sure what that means), and observation at a junction.

I only started taking lessons in late February, but I *thought* I took to it as a natural, so was reasonably confident I wold pass. But I suddenly got really nervous when the test started and my driving was worse than it was weeks ago. He really put me through my paces as well: parallel parking, national speed limit on an A-road, national speed limit on a country lane, hill starts... the lot.

I'm tempted to try again by taking up a cancellation spot, maybe this week or next. Good idea or should I wait?

Taking it again so quickly could be a mistake. Chances are when you're on the road, you'd be thinking about the mistakes you made last time. Give it a week or so, get out on the road for some practice and try again then!

There used to be a 14 day wait between tests, no idea if that's still the case though as I passed in 2003.

I got one booked asap though, was 15 days after originally failing.

Up in Sheffield booking times are full for 4 weeks+ all year round, during the later summer months it gets up to 6-8 weeks!

Progress is driving too slowly I think? As in [Lack of] progress. Undue hesitation is not going from a junction when you had ample time to, hesitating.

I would just take the test again asap. Those are things you don't need practice to fix, just a bit of common sense and more attention next time it happens.

I'd definitely get a couple more lessons in and give the feedback to your instructor so you can practice before retaking. Good luck.

Get it booked again as soon as you can. No point spending more on more lessons you don't need. The reasons you failed weren't down to you being a complete Maureen, they're things you could read up on in a book.

I did exactly the same thing. Failed my test (clipped the curb on a turn in the road like a chump, which I hadn't done before in any lessons) and booked it again as soon as I could. I had a an hour lesson before the test and passed it.

Did that on mine but he let it go because it was the rear wheel. Front is instant fail apparently. It's harsh when some turns are pretty sharp.

Surprised your instructor didn't take you to most of the likely places you would get taken on your test to rule out all possible lane errors etc. By the way, if you find yourself in the wrong lane, just stay in it, you can't fail for going the wrong way.

That's good advice. I will keep it in mind.

I did that :( apart from mine was a a five ways crossroads thing. :( The lane i got in meant sharp left (almost going back on your self) I was  but then i it happens :( All you need is more experience of that area :) Have a few lessons driving around the test area and learn the lanes :)

yup i did that on my second test was gutted had that and only one minor , felt i was robbed :( considering i seen loads of people do the same even coppers on that roundabout.

the wait times for a test was 10 - 12 weeks for me back in 2005 due to a shortage of driving examiners in Sheffield i had three test's i was nervous wreck on the first one so your not alone i got way better on the second test , finally did it on the third but with more minor faults funnily enough. have a few more lessons then book another test i think. that's what i did we concentrated on all the possible roundabouts so i knew them really well all the lane markings ect.

I failed my second test for Not making progress.

It was because i had 4 Minors (Major) due to driving a 1 mile stretch at 20-25MPH. What annoyed me greatly was this was at 3:40, Children everywhere walking over the streets and many "School 20MPH" Signs plasted all over the place.

She failed me because the 20MPH is a recommended speed. and the speed limit was still 30

Dont feel too bad, even professional drivers with 400,000 miles experience can goof on this one.

(Especially when the signing is ambiguous and the lane markings all worn out)

;)
