Cervelo use PF30.

Plastic cups go into the frame so you can't ruin the frame.

Similar to the C60's ThreadFit. Metal inserts screw into a threaded BB. And then cups press fit into these. It means you are not pressing into the frame itself and if all goes wrong, you can buy new metal inserts.

Now I need helmet mounted light recommendations for a rear facing light, anybody?!

For night riding or more for your visibility to others? I have the Leyzne Macro Duo (front 130 lumen and rear 20/30 lumen) and it works well - but I don't need it for night riding, mostly for visibility when commuting inner city :)

Chris Boardman is in the office today for a Q&A; what should I ask him?

Ask him when his helmet brand is going to be available for free (as we don't need them right?) :D

EDIT: Or more seriously expanding on that - how does he think British attitudes towards cycling need to change to make it (1) more socially acceptable as a 'car replacement' and (2) safer for everyone. At the moment there are different safety measures taken thoughout the country (with the primary one being segregated cycle ways/lanes) and the whole thinking seems totally 'disjointed'.

Bonus question: How can we get more BBC cycling coverage for 'normal' people? (rather than those who hunt it down on Sky/Eurosport). Even with the huge recent uptake in cycling BBC Sport don't seem to consider it a sport worth covering. The majority their coverage being predominantly track orientated. We need more road coverage, crits, CX, BMX, MTB, Downhill etc etc! :)

2 hours from order to dispatch from Merlin! Super quick, that new warehouse obviously helping them out!

Nothing exciting, cleats, chain, BB tool, drink tabs!

Hope you got your wheel sorted?!

Yup! Got them sorted this weekend, it's back on the bike now with brand new GP4000s ii's! Can't wait to get out on it! Nice 16 mile blast with a fast corner at one point so ill get to really test them out!

If you wouldn't mind. Could you email me? Email in trust.

Can you spec me some summer/general wheels/set mate,

At the lbs on Sunday I asked about wheels, I asked about the Fulcrums, the guy said to me he doe a about 120 miles a week on Mavic Aksiums, he showed me them, 1660g a pair and he says he's been down the canal to Leeds from Saltaire along some Rocky sections with 25mm on them and didn't send them out of true.. Giant SR2 Wheels are 2001g a pair.

He's on his second pair now and he also said that there's an insurance that only three stores in the UK can hand out, it's from Mavic and covers you from any kind of damage for two years and its 10% of the price of the wheels. Ill be getting it due to the roads around here.

A mate at work had the same wheels and he's in love with them, he said you can get the Mavic Kysrium for a little more but you won't notice much of a dicredence, I'm gonna do another 1k and then upgrade to them unless my cassette gets damaged then ill upgrade sooner.

Reviews are good on them too.

Thanks done mine £47.62 delivered, so £23.81 per tyre.

Mine came yesterday :D fit them!

Mines at processing now feller - I had to order an innner tube to bring the total over 50 euros for the discount code to work.

Thanks for the heads up - Thats a great price.

No problem. Glad to help, I love saving money!

Carbon fibre stabilisers - yes or no?

Haha fantastic!

Okay. Need some help.

I have the SRAM PG950 11-32 cassette and KMC X9 chain.

If I upgraded my wheels should I get a better Cassette and chain?

Thought about the PG980 Cassette, what you guys think?

Put my tyres on yesterday and had the back one on the wrong way round so had to change it back this morning haha. Annoying as I looked for an arrow and couldn't find one as it were only on one side of the tyre and was hard to find haha.

All good now. Can't wait to corner in them later, excited to use them! First proper set of tyres.

Anyone got any thoughts on the Mavic Aksiums?

Done! I'm pretty useless at replying so bear with me if I'm slow, I'm not being ignorant! ;)

Some of the others here have said about the Kysriums, think it was grudas? If he's found them good for his thousands of miles per week then they must be good. Although I'd always check the opinion of someone who's hit a pot hole/ridden a hill with them too ;)

I'm certainly going to buy a wheelset but after rebuilding mine and reading/asking around (including here, see a few pages back) I think I'll be going hand built. I'd considering the <£300 'investment' worth while when commuting (and the problems I've had). Over the slight saving you can get from off the shelf style wheels.

Although the Shimano RS11 price at the moment is very tempting! £91.20! (43% off @ Wiggle!) :o

We've just had our final briefing for our charity ride next week - 85 miles from Liverpool to Sheffield. It sounds like I'll be among the fastest, and I'm only expecting to average about 15mph for the ride!

Any sponsorship gratefully received - there's a link in my signature.

If cycling 85 miles isn't sponsorship worthy enough, I am also going ahead with getting my legs waxed on Friday... Fun times.

Going back to bottom bracket chat, mine is a PF30 job and I've never had any creaks out of it thankfully. What I would like to know however is what do I need to enable Shimano cranks to fit? I'm guessing some kind of adaptor (which will probably creak  )

Think I've decided to go custom build wheelset instead of factory. Will be made by Paolo/Ugo (bike radar) on h plus son archetype rims (24/28). I cannot decide on hubs. Miche primato, solid well regarded hub and at £75 a pair very cost effective. My question is am I mad to be considering hope mono rs/dura ace hubs (£200+with qr) above the Primatos?

Sorry, I saw your email but haven't got round to replying...

I can't speak to the Hope or Dura Ace hubs, as I've not used them, but Hope kit does have a glowing reputation, so if you've got the money then why not...

What I can tell you is that after about 2000 miles my Miche Primato hubs are going strong with no maintenance at all, and that includes wet and muddy riding from time to time. I can also tell you that the freehub is very quiet, which you may or may not like, depending on how much noise you like to make!

Nope, not worth it. A cassette is a cassette, pretty much, and while there might be a tiny weight saving moving to a fancier one, in practise you probably won't notice it or benefit from it. I'd only be replacing it if:

a) The old one is worn out
b) You want different gear ratios
c) You want to have a cassette on both your old and new wheels so you can swap them over without swapping the cassette

And if you're keeping the cassette there's no sense swapping the chain unless that is itself worn out. If you're changing the cassette then there is an argument for changing the chain at the same time, as using a worn chain on a new cassette can accelerate wear of the cassette.

There's no rush for a reply, just when you have some spare time, cheers for that!

Keep your current chain and cassette until they are shot, then upgrade if you want to. I don't really see what benefit you would get.

I don't either. The set I've got seem to be pretty good, I'm just thinking for a smoother gear change or for durability and lightness. I don't know too much about it if I'm honest.

Ill sponsor you if you sponsor me! :D

Did 55 mile sportive and raised £200 last year.

This year I'm doing a 30 mile and a 55 mile ride, I may also be doing 280mile from Scotland to Bingley! As long as my shoulder recovers soon.

This is exactly what I thought! Tthanks for confirming, ill be buying a new cassette and chain with the new wheels as I'll be getting them in Aug for a big ride I have planned, use them for a couple of month and then pop them away for winter and use the winter wheel.

The only other thing I want to know is what ratios are good for hill climbing?

I don't mind noise, I'll probably go with the primato hub. I think it was the shiney red hopes that made me think.
