Been thinking about it today while out shopping with the wife and kids and have come to the decision i wont spend more than £550 on a gpu and preferably not one with an AIO bolted on, also I am loathe to give Nvidia any cash and become another of the Nvidiot herd.

AMD can have my cash if the cards around £550 and can at minimum compete with the 980ti when that is released, otherwise I see zero reason to upgrade over my 290 with DX12 around the corner and the mileage I will probably get out of the 290 and my 4770k

Anything around £500+ is quite steep imo even for me, but it's to be expected.. 50% or so performance gain over cards that cost less than half the price, not exactly getting the moneys worth there. Depending how well the highest end card is priced though i might actually try it, for once.

So you think dx12 hasn't already been handed out to select developers already?? So all those dx12 tech demos from game Devs like the Fable, ff15 etc what about them? I expect there's a fair few developers working with dx12 already aiming to launch around xmas

Batman AK and Witcher 3 told to have a low level API later.
Project cars already tested with DX12 and they told its 30-40% faster than DX11
Microsoft brings Fable Legends and King of Wushu
Valve Dota 2 on Vulkan already presented on GDC
Fortnite and UT from Epic
Dead Island 2
Deus Ex: Mankind Divided and Ashes of Singularity
All the frostbyte games NFS, SW: Battlefront, Mirror's Edge, Mass Effect
EVE Valkyrie
Star Control
Star Citizen

Many of those comes in the next year, some this year. So low level games are not that far away

Not sure why people think they are going to get any more than 4GB of HBM on a card just now.

It has been said on many tech websites that the limit of HBM version one as stated by AMD etc is 4GB due to the memory package size.

In HBM 2 (ie new cards next year - PASCAL I am guessing and AMD's updated Fury) will have >4GB.

So if you expect more than 4GB of HBM you are going to be disappointed.

You sure?

I doubt AK and the Witcher 3 will be getting DX12. As for SW:Battlefront. This might. As Dice did implement Mantle in to BF4. But if it does come it will be in 2016 not at launch. (Hope Im wrong)

The first two was just told they will get a low level port, i'm not sure
Dice will go the Vulkan path, but as that's basicly the same as mantle, they have an easy task to port. So thats nothing to do with DX12 or W10.

No HBMs limit is not 4GB it's 1GB per stack atm.

You mean in the 1 game between now and 2017?

Why do people always think that these things will be an overnight phenomenon?

Maybe they're basing it on Mantle. We were constantly being told how quick the take up of Mantle was (what is it 8 games in 17 months?). You'd think that DX12 should be able to match that.

I imagine it has something to do with the distance the stack would then be from the core.

The whole point of HBM was it not was that the DRAM stack was as close to the core as you could get it.

Well I'm 99.9% sure people will be disappointed on reveal day when they see it's 4GB

I hope What ever this card turns out to be is double the performance of two 7950s, then ill buy it.

So 295x2 or simerlar performance from a single gpu is what im hoping for.

Then I can stick one of my 7950s in my girlfriends computer that's a few feet away with a 2900XT leaf blower inside it. drives me nutts

And then ill have one spare for when that one goes pop :D
