You need only look back 7 years to when GDDR3 and GDDR5 were about, the same scenario happened, GDDR3 2GB was significantly slower than GDDR5 1GB with IDENTICAL GPU's and clock speeds.

Unless the game needed >1GB VRAM, in which case the 2GB GDDR3 card pulled ahead while the 1GB GDDR5 card started a swapfest.

Luckily for me I don't need >4GB for 2560x1080@75Hz :D

i would be intrested in a someone leaking those bios`s :) so i can flash my card with them :D
lol

though i would probably need to wait for the r9395x2 first hahaha but those r290 and r290x peeps could :D

With all the rumors and probably facts. e.g pictures going around making it seem the 390X is an identical rebrand to the 290x, the price in Euros which I think account VAT as well is simply worrying. If that is the price AMD decide to sell, it would be a massive fail on their part, with potential buyers potentially going to Nvidia for their GTX 970 being a cheaper budget option if performance is similar and there is no more 290X Stock. Its either sell cheap and at a competitive price bracket or bye bye AMD. If the 390X is having similar performance to a Nvidia 970, and costing more, it would be a definite fail.

Speaking about the new FIJI, since AMD missed a released cycle, with Nvidia having released Maxwell, AMD needs to sell their lowest performance Fiji Below £500, similar to how the 290X was priced 2 years ago when it was released. About £450, but sadly some Nvidia 980s are selling below £450, so if the lowest performance Fiji were to sell below £500 it needs to have about 10% and more better performance.

There are some rumors about the Fiji in benchmarks that it would be equal to the Titan and 980ti, but if their selling at that price bracket there would be a huge price gap gap between the Fiji and 390X, likely the lowest performance Fiji will fill that price bracket, but really its expensive, and that gap is still pretty wide between the 390X and lowest performance Fiji; if they price the 390X to fill that price gap, it would be a disaster if the performance is similar to the GTX 970 as it will cost more.

With Nivida filling in all the price brackets, I got to say Nvidia is smart and I'm no Nvidia fan but it would be tough for AMD to get out of this situation, likely their profit margins will be very low if they play it smart but get marketshare.

Likewise, AMD might be taking the long route in things, the release is just a teaser, and the real deal will come soon in December/January, the cards being released in a couple of day are just stop gaps. Sure it might give AMD a boost, but it would hurt the liable customers of their next gen graphics card.

Rebrands, heck both vendors do that. NVIDIA replaced th gtx 670 with the 760/770. Both about as useful as an ashtray on a motorbike. Its only now with fury and tx/980ti were getting some new cards. Albeit on the still okd 28nm fab process. Both vendors have milked that old cow dry.

I think it's pretty impressive what they've managed to accomplish on 28nm, Nvidia particularly. I'll be holding on to my 290X until 14nm though, the performance improvements haven't justified the massive costs of the new cards (for me) yet.

What part of the word 'rebrand' don't you lot get?

It's the same card with a different bios on it that calls it something else and nothing more.

Gibbo said AMD could not release the Fury earlier than slated because there was a huge backlog of stock that wasn't selling. I guess by doing this board partners can flash the cards and repackage them.

Actually, the difference in the BIOS is quite significant, but apparently it can still be flashed onto a 290/X, which isn't a good sign for a refresh.

Well if my Tri-x can be flashed to a 390 and gain some performance there's zero need for me to upgrade til a die shrink, especially not at those ridiculous prices quoted above. If those are anywhere near the actual retail price then the FuryX I feel will be overpriced for its performance.

Just hope this doesn't end AMD :( as I can see a lot of people massively disappointed with this rubbish

I'd guess to flash you would need a 8gb 290x to begin with.

Both sides rebrand i dont see it as a end to AMD, its still a very good card, but AMD will need fury to preform and some of the lower cards

So, 2GB's not enough VRAM for 1080p.
But 4GB's plenty for 4K?

Amazing.

3.5GB isn't enough for 1080P either but 4GB on an AMD card is great for 4K. I am slow at math but maybe I am missing something?

Also, I have been jumped on big time for saying they will be rebrands except for Fiji by Humbug and Orangey, so I await an apology.

Nope so not sure why uneducated websites keep posting such screens.

Ohh... you know why.

I'll start beating the drum once there are proper reviews with proper drivers rather than a weird bizarrely blurry/blocky questionable screencap pulled from someones anus.
