*** The Official Destiny Thread (now includes 2.0 and TTK) ***

So I recently got an XBone and decided to try the trial out. I'm quite enjoying it and thinking about picking up the full game. It kind of reminds me of Mass Effect with a slight bit of Halo.

This game gets a lot of bad press though, am I likely to get bored of it or is it enjoyable if you take it for what it is, a shooter with progression elements and hints of MMO

If you play on your own it'll get stale fairly quickly once you've done the story stuff unless you love the grind for gear and weapons, although that's highly dependent on RNG. Teaming up with others, for me, is where this game shines. It has its flaws but it's good. If i hadn't got involved with the community off here I probably wouldn't have sunk half the time into it that I have.

Considering you can get it pretty cheap now it's well worth a shot.

It's a bite size MMO really, primarily co-op but also some good team based PvP challenges.

To get the best of it you need to get involved in a community like this one on the raid thread, because all the high level content needs you to be on pre-made teams on voice chat. Not even high level really....if you just play solo and matchmaking you'll be missing most of the game tbh.

It was a bit lacking at first and the first DLC was a bit ropey, but the latest one has really filled out the game. Still really enjoying it here. Working through DLC2 pve content still, but will crack on to the PvP once I'm geared up a bit better.

I'm thinking you are right, raids with the OCUK gang will be where it's at. Yeh I saw it in a few stores for £20 so will pick it up. Not paying £50 odd for the digital version lol.

Was not willing to pay £35 quid for it, I'm still not, even more so now it's old content.

Ps4.

check cdkeys its sold out at the moment but its some times under £30 which is were i got mine from, £15 per dlc ......still high price but better than than £35

Still way too much for the content provided, especially when there is yet another one due in a few months. Oh well.

I'm not sure what is seen as good value for money then.. I've spent about 1000 hours playing this game and it cost me a grand total of £75.

Great for you, it's not good value for me though as I won't play it near enough to justify the cost, I'd rather just buy a new game instead.

I always compare it to the cinema, I went last night, factoring in petrol and the ticket etc... probably spent ~£20 for 2 hours entertainment. The HoW content even if run once across one character is probably about 4-6hours (factoring in the various PoEs) bearing in mind there's a lot of repeating to be had to get all the gear/weapons etc... it can obviously be many more.

4-6hours minimum is pretty good £30-35 for me... then again i also don't consider £30 a lot of money!

I'm old, its habit more than anything lol, I really can't argue against your comments other than to say I can't justify it for a game that will again be out of date soon. I think it is that more than anything that puts me off, plus I already own too many games I hardly play lol.

my thoughts also, i can spend £100+ on one night out with the missus just on food and drink. yet i have put over 800+ hours in to it for the the cost of the game and dlc

Depends how much you want to play it. I've enjoyed both expansions and imo got my moneys worth out of them. Expansions making old gear/weapons redundant comes with the territory, I'm afraid. Really looking forward to seeing what comes next with The Taken King (if that's what it ends up being called).

And that's not even really the case any more with the ability to use Etheric Light to max out your old gear. I think Bungie have done a good job listening to the community and bringing in a lot of changes based solely on feedback from the people who play the game. If they continue to do that, Destiny has a great future ahead of it.

Glad I didn't spend my weapon core from the 34 PoE today earlier. Since the patch Vrakis is selling the machine gun with a damage to fallen perk rather than shank burn. Also the armour now has 100% discipline rather than strength.

So The Taken King 'major expansion' was announced: https://youtu.be/VFh5ArG46_M

Begins year 2 of the game, with a new subclass for each class and attacking Oryx' fortress (he's mad we all had a go taking it in turns swording his son ;))

It has the biggest raid yet, apparently...
