Chris Evans to host top gear

Wow that's going to suck big time.

He can have a couple series, ratings will plummet and the show will be canned.

Or they can get rid of Chris and hire someone less annoying. Which would give them about 9 billion candidates to choose from ;)

I don't mind Chris Evans but this will tank. I really dislike the BBC - the clever thing to do would have been to wait for this to blow over and then have the three of them back.

But no, instead it must be milked for all it's worth, and it must be done immediately.

I also can't stand the guy. Met him on several occasions "back in the day" when he used to frequent Gleneagles (I used to work up there) and he came over as a complete merchant banker. Treated all the staff like brown stuff.

Good God, can't they find some new talent.

A sad day in my books :(

He's better then up my own #### Clarkson

Evans will divide opinion as much as Clarkson did. For everyone who thinks Evans is a **** there will be someone who thinks Clarkson is one.

The difference is all those people who thought Clarkson was a **** still watched the show every week :D:p

Hey, go in to work and verbally assault and then physically assault them and see if they are willing to 'wait for this to blow over' and not sack you.

Oh dear.... This is not going to end well! His little joke piece with Clarkson on the La Ferrari was dire!

I'm going to buck the trend and give him a chance. If it is the same format and just a replacement of presenters, then there's every chance it will tank - the weight of comparisons would just be too great. But I don't think they'll do that - the format will need to change and if they want to maintain a strong, lead presenter then he'll need to make it his own just as Clarkson did.

Chris Evans is a creative writer and has a knack of surrounding himself with good complementary talent too. He's been very innovative in his time, especially in the early days. Plus he's also big enough to retain a career if it doesn't work out.

TG is a bit of a poison challis imo

I like the bloke tbh :o he's got a love for cars at least and knows how to present.

Hopefully it will bring on less of the more dumb challenges that JC came to rely on so much.

I can't see him fitting in with the show unless they completely alter the way the show is made and presented.

My thoughts exactly. I think it would be mistake to try and take the current (old?) format, at least half of which was basically a vehicle for the 3 presenters , and simply put new people on it. Then it will always be a direct comparison and be a square pegs in round hole scenario.

They should reinvent it which at least gives an opportunity to play to the strengths of those involved and indeed introduce some new concepts (maybe more audience/public participation, whatever).

There is still potential for it to be a decent show, especially with the sort of budget it will presumably command, even if it isn't as good as the old one.

I think it could work. Quite pleased to be honest - I'd been convinced TG would be dead and buried, particularly if Clarkson, Hammond, May were to get set up with a rival show. Reckon Evans brings something to the table, though.

Will be interesting to see who else is on the team - and that's the key, how the three (?) of them work together onscreen.

6 months and there will be a rival show on another channel, possibly even Netflix.

I'm betting they're already filming for it (Clarkson et al.)

That is going to be the key - doubt Evans can carry it if the other presenters are duds, but if there is a good dynamic it could work.

i will prob. watch the first episode to reconfirm it will be meh and then just go back to waiting for C, H and M to come up with a new show.

I will reserve judgement until I've seen it. I like Chris Evans, he's been massively successful and will have loads of his own ideas about how the show should be done...I think we'll see something of a departure from the Top Gear that we've all come to know and love (hate?).

I personally quite like Chris Evans. I really enjoyed TFI Friday last week too.

Although Im probably different to most because I think Top Gear had gone stale a few series ago and it needed a purge.

Richard Hammond was a little pleb too.

Stuart Lees standup about Top Gear pretty much summed up my feelings on Hammond, May and Clarkson. Its worth searching on youtube. Bad Language though :)
