Final Fantasy VII Remake

I'm not convinced they can do ff7 justice.

especially if they mess about with the games story I don't think people would like it and will 3d work and be as good as 2d was assuming that's what they are doing.

I'm not convinced, are square enix still having financial difficulty and need this?

Please don't kill me for this.

I love FF7, I mean really love it, it was my first video gaming love, nothing will ever be able replace it in my heart - but video games have moved on a long way since then. An identical remake, no matter how good it is isnt going to hold up against the games of today. I fell in love with FF7 because of the way the story unfolded infront of me, but I know that story now, and no matter how it looks its just not going to be the same. I know I take my life into my hands by saying this... but a re-imagining really might not be a bad thing.

These have been my exact thoughts ever since I started considering the idea of it being remade over 10 years. Having the exact same game with updated visuals would be the biggest waste of time and resources in the history of game development. It would be solely to appease the tiny niche of people who loved the original but are unable to tolerate its potato graphics to play through it anymore (I say tiny niche, since I'm sure most fans of the game still enjoy playing it despite how bad it looks).

This game is already going to be played by every gamer who loved it in 1997. They don't have to sell this game to any of them, even if they do end up making design decisions that staunch fans of everything the original is are going to bemoan. They need to sell this game to the rest of the population of gamers, which is a vastly bigger market.

It has to be everything as modern as Final Fantasy 15 is, and that even counts towards the story. The story was influential and groundbreaking and full of surprises in 1997 - it wouldn't be today. They need to tell it differently.

I kinda feel that if they change it that much then there's no point making it an ff7 remake and it may aswell be a new game. Certainly the resources would be better spent doing that as unless it's the same game just with fancy graphics (I think that's what most ff7 fans want) it'll just upset people. A new game at least won't have the expectations/nostalgia to fight against the same

They should look at REmake for inspiration. It's essentially the same game but added and changed elements that made it much better than the original yet maintained the mechanics such as tank controls and traditional aiming. I don't want a carbon copy and I'd like them to include elements from the compelation such as Zack. Just as long as it keeps the turn based battles, world map and materia system.

Take it with a pinch of salt but I don't FF7 will be a direct remake, as I said before I think it's going to be a modernised take on FF7 and perhaps elements from Crisis Core and Advent Children will be included but don't bet on it being a remake as such.

To be honest, I wasn't expecting a direct remake. Some of the elements of the original game are not going to work well in a full 3D game. I just hope they keep the core story intact and if need be change the finer points. Really hoping they keep the same combat system though and don't use the active style of Final Fantasy XIII+, and that they have the same materia system.

Seems the original FFVII is also coming to mobile devices later this year, although only ios to start with.

I agree. I want them to keep the combat and materia system the same. I don't really mind if they tinker with the story. It won't ruin the original story that I experienced 20 years ago.

we can't have these upgraded, beautiful 3D models of Cloud and Barrett, still lining up in a row, jumping forward to attack an enemy, then jumping back to wait for their next turn. That would be bizarre. Of course there will likely be changes there.

Yeah, I'm going to be vey cautious about this remake. I love turn based and haven't enjoyed a FF game since X.

If they have to change it I wouldn't be entirely against a combat system like the Hyperdimension Neptunia Rebirth games.

So turn based combat may be out, or it could be like final fantasy 12.

I read the link. It doesn't say anything about the combat system changing?

This is really my biggest hope, that they leave the combat system alone.

A combat system like 12 would really really put me off the game (like it did 12).

Did you not read the part that says:

"But we can't have these upgraded, beautiful 3D models of Cloud and Barrett, still lining up in a row, jumping forward to attack an enemy, then jumping back to wait for their next turn. That would be bizarre. Of course there will likely be changes there".

Thing is I am open to them changing things in the game as long as it doesn't completely ruin everything. If all people wanted was a complete identicle remake with just super fancy graphics then it would be pointless making it. You can get the PC version up to pretty nice gfx with mods etc
