AMD CEO Lisa Su was explored options to simply business but manage both CPU and GPU business was too much for AMD, now she is considering to spin off GPU business so AMD can return to old root to manage CPU business and ATI to manage GPU business.

The AMD Fusion vision end in failure, APUs are now no longer a cash cow Ruiz dreamed of 10 years ago and AMD lost billions since a decade ago and they wished they never purchased ATi for $5.4bn 10 years ago and would had kept Fabs.

Think it the best way and only ticket to avoid AMD bankruptcy take ATI down with it. To spin off GPU business would mean the end of APUs and next generation consoles will need separate GPUs or going Intel all the way. Lisa Su probably not happy with Zen performance and wanted AMD to return to old root to focus CPU business alone so they would create CPU killer like Athlon did in old day to break Intel dominance.

Probably a little late to consider this move but if the GPU arm of the business was run like the ATi of old it would be a good move. They could then hire some developers for the drivers... :D

Dear god. Amd really are amateurs. No real business direction or strategy. Best they can hope for is an also ran in a number of markets.

How did they think buying another number two in a market of 2 companies was going to work out? Well exactly as the market share graphs indicate - very badly.

The amd ati e3 coverage was literally terrible. Like a college fumbled presentation by people who clearly have never been near a presentation skills class in their career.

Not to mention some if the quotes and actions of the company.

I used to buy amd m i had a k6-2, a duron 750 and a tbird 1400.

These days as IT advisor to friends amd family i recommend anything but AMD especially in the mobile space and also desktops. It's really bad.

I don't like to hear that, but there was a report few months ago that EESC division is an earner around 400million profit, and GC divisions loss nullified that.
Although they could change that by avoiding marketing failures like the 290 ref cooler which then hurt the whole lineup even when the good cards were on sale.
Its easy to bring up the GC division: good drivers, and quality cards-no cheapo cooler and stuff...and they seem to go in the right direction now.

That would spell disaster. Sammy would just use the resources to further the markets they already compete in. Besides, as a company they have no passion for anything.
Lack of passion may be, but they tends to excel at everything that they do...they hold their ground well, if not do better against other competitions that's been long in the industries.

Some one please just buy out AMD to rid us of these idiots who have been running it into the ground. It's painful to see what has become of AMD. :(

Its is nothing but a leaked idea some advisory company had. It doesn't mean AMD are considering it. It would also ruin their APU business which with their use of HBM, Zen and Newer GCN, we will see some very meaty APU's soon.

They'll be considering all options, with a new CEO, so it's not entirely surprising.

APUs should be kicking into another gear with the event of HBM.
