do it's activated, so then you just clean install. Is anyone who did a clean install of w10 preview not activated?

I posted earlier about the Nvidia driver for Windows 10. In build 10130 it was horrendous in games, I had to un-install it. Yet in build 10134, I can't fault it.

Look at Google with Android... Free with tablets and phones alike, yet the "App" side is very lucrative.

It wont be free for enterprise. As that has extra costs.

And it's more than just apps, you have all the other services, office 365, Skype, onedrive and a dozen other things.

It's in MS best interest to have as many machines out there running windows, they should have gone complete free this time. And I wouldn't be surprised if at the end of the year, they'll release a big upgrade to w10 and go, hey everyone you can do a free upgrade to w10 u1

Time will tell I guess. But everything up to this point has said 'Insiders will be able to upgrade to RTM', nothing at all has suggested they are going to give away free, full copies of Windows 10 Pro to Insiders.

That quote is from Gabriel Aul from the Microsoft blog on the Microsoft site.

So as long as your copy of windows10 preview is activated and you login with an MS affront it will upgrade to RTM, regardless if there was a key.
Unless of course any one with out a key hasn't managed to activate w10 preview in the first place.

Actually, thinking about it, he doesn't mention licencing at all. Could he just mean you will get a Technical Preview of the RTM build?

I.e. we are all running activated Windows 10 Preview builds now, they have a generic key in them and all expire at some point in the future. Could this just be that the RTM build will arrive the same way, but retain a Preview key and an expiry? So you can continue to "test" Windows 10 under the Preview program beyond release, but its still considered a Preview version and under a Preview licence (even though the code is the same as RTM)?

What you're saying contradicts what Gabe has previously stated about Insiders only being able to take advantage of the Upgrade offer if they used the Windows Update method, as it requires a key.

I am going to guess that if you do nothing your TP build will become a RTM version, and maybe further beyond that, but that it will always be a "Preview" licence rather than a proper licrce, and therefore will expire some when.

I will gladly be proved wrong, but I would expect more than just 'Glaucus from OcUK' to have spotted it if Microsoft were genuinely giving away fully licenced, full versions of Windows 10 Pro. The Insider site would be being DDoSed as we speak.

It's now a button switch in the latest leaks.

Obviously I didn't spot it.
It's a blog post from Microsoft which many news sites have picked up on it.

And I'm not saying it's 100%, but what he has written is pretty clear. Hence the question marks, on has everyone who's done a clean install got it to activate.

What a silly reply, I've already said I'm not saying they will 100% give out license. So your question is meaningless.

I see 4 main things

1) doesn't mean what he has said
2) clean installs of w10 preview shouldn't activate and as such wont upgrade.
3) as you need an ms account, most serials people have used have been registered with the account, so 99% of people have used up a license key.
4) he means what he said, with most people doing an upgrade from w7/w8 they are using a key up. Those who did a clean install get a free license.

You have 12 months from launch day to upgrade for free. After that, you pay to upgrade. For obvious reasons they aren't going to start charging everyone after they've been using Windows 10 for a year.

That's not how I read it. I* read it as when you upgrade, it will be free for 12 months. Implying that after 12 months it may no longer be free.

I had a feeling the above wouldn't be set in stone. Giving away a free genuine copy of Windows 10 to Insiders is the right thing to do.

That's from may 11 so old.
Blog is newer and 20hrs ago he tweeted this

"They can upgrade from win7/8.1 systems or from a system they clean installed with preview ISO as long as it is registered with MSA "

And in a response to that, another question is asked about transferability of the license from a clean install from ISO and he replies


"No, it is tied to that specific pc"

I don't understand why they don't, just like 90% of other company's decide and make a clear and concise article, generally available immediately after the announcement.

I have already reserved my copy of Windows 10.

Yes, but a bit long winded.

First you will need to upgrade your win8.1 to win10 and activate it.
You can then download the ISO, change the HDD over and install w10 on you new SSD.

Wow MS shaw know how to confuse people!!!

I joined the insider program a while ago and installed the preview on my main machine, I then decided to remove it and revert back to Windows 7 which I have been running fir quite some time.

Here's my question, I need 3 x Windows 10 as cheap as possible or better still free. am i still eligible for a free upgrade if i re-install Windows 10 TP on my main machine and could I sign up the other 2 and do the same thing?

It's so confusing, If they just announced a special offer of £25 for Windows 10 for a limited time I'd just jump on that and buy 3 because at least it would be clear.
