A tire-iron, hammer, crowbar, hand size rock or brick...there are hundreds of things all very easy to get to that'll make short work of car window.

Years a go it was easy to put out a window with a rock, but I've seen a couple of vids recently of criminals trying to break windows with bricks and they've just bounced off.

they are idiot proof though , you need to whack near a corner for the window to smash easily, if you whack the centre the force just gets absorbed

It's sad more so that the deaths could have easily been preventable. Granted, leaving the mobile behind is easily done as I've done it once at work, but I'm surprised that he didn't have any water in the car. I carry a litre in my backpack at all times whatever the weather.

I think it's fair to say most people don't carry a litre of water around in back packs. Nor keep a stash in the car for emergencies.
