Samsung 4k Freesync Screens

Hopefully it will be soon honestly. Though I am rather curious why there hasn't been any real update or news on the monitors yet.

I keep waiting for good news about a date from Gibbo or anyone now at the moment.

There is a reason why Gibbo is quiet. Apparently, all dealers were told to be quiet ... or ... no products. Some dealers are not even told the reason. Definitely, arrival dates are no longer given.

However, it is almost certain that no products before July. This is Samsung's premium line and they do not want to see half-baked Freesync. As probably many noticed AMD does not even bother to guess when they can fix freesync on crossfire. One thing for sure, Sammy already announced these new 4K models at least 4 times now. I think Sammy will make 2 more announcement before release.

BTW, the big river and others might get it sooner and it all comes from the same source.

I guess so, but premium line doesn't really mean much as I bought a premium monitor from samsung before and I got like a brown line on the right side + that the image would get burnt in/ghosting after like a good 10/15 min and took a while to get off. They just responded "Oh, yea it's normal for those monitors to have that." and the repair center wouldn't admit that the whole serie is ***** up. Then I said Never ever a PLS screen.

So I'm really psyched up for a decent 4K TN panel

Hello All,

I am currently looking for a new monitor and I have been considering the Freesync technology monitors that have been released (or almost released) so far. I have been following the BenQ XL2730Z and the Asus MG279Q threads for quite some time as they were my two top choices of gaming monitor.

I would recommend that you have a look at those threads as the issues discussed about the Freesync implementation apply to all Freesync monitors.

The BenQ monitor was discovered to have a bug in its Firmware regarding the usage of Freesync and Overdrive working simultaneously which has now been fixed in the V2 Firmware (Making this monitor a really great gaming monitor) This bug affected all Freesync implementations at the time of discovery and this is the reason why all the other manufacturers have put a hold on release of their products. I think this is a good thing as Asus and Samsung want to release fully working solid products. I for one wouldn't want to have to send off my new monitor for a firmware upgrade a few weeks after purchase.

As for the Asus MG279Q - The 35Hz - 90Hz Freesync Range is a current limitation of the IPS/Freesync implementation which I am sure will be bettered in newer Freesync monitors in the next generation. I also believe that the 35 to 90 range isnt as much of a problem as some people are making out as in reality you would need some pretty hefty graphics grunt to get games over 90 FPS with the 2560x1440P resolution (Hence why Asus went for a lower 35Hz start to the range, as this is where it would best be used).

Don't get me wrong....I know some of you guys out there are graphics power hungry megalomaniacs with lots of money to burn and you lot will be able to hit that 90 FPS boundary with no problems.....Lucky You LOL :-) But for the majority that range will be spot on.

Anyway to cut a very long story short....I am now also checking out these new Samsung 4K monitors with Freesync as I would like to know more about the Freesync implementation on them and what impact that would have as a gaming monitor.

I hope some of the above has answered a few questions for you and as I said before check out those other threads as they concentrate primarily on the Freesync aspects of those monitors and how well the Freesync works etc...

I too would have thought that AMD would have taken a little more time to get the Freesync launch 100% right.....but they fumbled the ball a bit. Shame really as I think the technology will be great and it allows the red team to catch up with the green team a little, but without the crazy costs associated with Nvidia setups. I am not a fanboy of either company and over the years have had both types of card depending on the best performer and my budget at the time of purchase...so no flame wars please. LOL :-)

Anyone know what the VRR window is on these panels ?

I am guessing it has got to be at least 35Hz - 60Hz if not 30Hz - 60Hz. That would cover the monitor completely and should in theory be great for gaming. Hence why I am considering these monitors too.

Fingers crossed.

Crying out for any crumb of info on these monitors, looking to get new monitor and either 980ti or Fury/Fury x but it's not the gpus that's the deal breaker it's the monitors as I'll be locking into one brand. The current freesync monitors disappointed me with there limited freesync window and motion blur issues while the gysnc ones (as usual) carry the nvidia price premium but they just work. I hope they don't turn out too good to be true as I had high hopes for these

Oh dear. When did this happen? I guess we really need to see some good reviews.

BTW, the TN Samsung 4K display is not made by Samsung and the older version is available (28D590). Somebody told me this is the reason of the release delay of all 5 models ... due to AMD's Freesync teething problems.

Your horror Samsung screen; did you tell them it is not fit for purpose? You get full refund. If it was expensive then go to small claims court with an independent assessment report. Frankly, this is the first time I heard issues with Samsung PLS. We should ask a couple members who test monitors (e.g., Baddass) what they think about this issue.

Well I never had any problems with Samsung monitors before, but that time... geez. I exchanged the monitor about 4-5 times even tried the lower version, all the same. If I remember correctly it was the S27d590PLX and S27D390HL.

First they replaced the screen as the first time was a dead pixel, second was bleeding but those times they already had the brows side as well and the ghosting/burning in. Then after 3-5th time they just said that the brown line is very common with the screens and so is the ghosting.

By any chance, have you found others (e.g., in forums) who had the same problem? (just curious)

Not that I know of. At least I haven't found any similar problems to the specific model. Though I had it replaced a lot plus another model in the same series and they were all the same. unfortuntely

I'm sorry to hear about the issues you've been having with the 27" AD-PLS panels. I have received a lot of user feedback and have a lot of experience with the 23.6" model and various other PLS panels. Other PLS panels, including the Full HD 23.6" AD-PLS model, certainly don't seem to share the issues that you describe. The UHD models use completely different panels and there is no reason to think they should suffer from such issues either.

PCM2 since you're here I have a couple questions.
1) What Zoart described is a very serious issue and as he mentioned he replaced it with multiple times. I have not find any complaint about that model. Can this be just a one off issue?

2) Have you heard anything about the new 4K Samsung monitors? Will Samsung give 1 for testing? I am really curious about the PLS versions especially the 23.6".

It could be an isolated issue which he was unlucky to experience on more than one unit. Possibly a batch problem in fact. The customer service rep saying it is a 'common issue' may or may not be correct and was likely trying to close off the issue, so to speak, rather than continuing to provide replacement units.
Samsung (or their UK PR people) don't have any review samples circulating at the moment for the '4K' models.

Thanks for your explanation. I was guessing the same that perhaps a batch of bad apples ended up in one source.
I have not really heard any issues with samsungs so far. In fact, I have an old one (different model) which has been running for years and it is still fine.

4K models - Have at least the Sammy PR people offered you one for testing? I assume even if they did you cannot disclose it when you will get hold of one. ;)

Finally I'd given up on these I thought they'd canned them lol probably updating the firmware that the other freesync monitors had to be recalled for

It is already available in Germany for about 2 weeks now. (All 5 of them) As I said, it is 99% UK will get it in July (probably first week).

I noticed that as well, though I have seen some shops in europe getting them in stock. Though my guess is that there will be a lot more stores who have them in stock by the end of the week if not then end of june.

But it's good to see actual news about it.
