Is the 390x really over 20% faster than a 290x? Benches seem odd.

So what? Saying it will shine in DX12 is hardly a pro or a reason to buy it as it will be obsolete by the time DX12 games are mainstream.

But you don't know this. Directx 12 games coming this year. Battlefront meant to be getting dx12..

290x what is it two years now is still perform well and that's on dx11.. So you think within one year plus the gains from dx12 a furyx is getting to be slow?

I don't think the furyx is aimed at people playing 1080p am afraid. I think AMD want yiu running much higher resolution. One reason why is performs very well at 4k.

They is other GPUs from amd that performance is perfectly fine at 1080p and much less in price.

But it can't run playable framerates at 4k on it's own in the latest graphics intensive games anyway and if it can't do that now it stands no chance of being anywhere near future proof at 4k when better looking games come out.

I thought the big performance boost on 7 series came from getting to grips with GCN, I do not think we will see such a jump again though it would be good to see.

now the damage is done and people like myself are already pricing up 980ti and Gsync options instead, which means I'm locked into Nvidia for the next 3-5 years really, that means I will only buy Nvidia cards for the next few years, and I bet I'm not the only person going this route

Quite correct, I am one of these people. At its best the Fury X is neck and neck with a stock 980ti, but the stock 980ti is already old hat compared to the aftermarket models with massive, stable overclocks with long warranties.

I've been quite excited by the 980ti since it released but was holding out to see the Fury X (like thousands of others I'm sure). A real shame for AMD and for the people who would have bought a competitive product.

15.15 driver ... it and the leaked follow up both provide huge performance uplift (particularly the leaked one on Guru3d).

All the reviews that used 15.15 to test the 390X showed huge uplift. 290X with modded 15.15 driver is marginally slower than the 390X, rather than being massively slower.

Supposedly all these improvements hit across the board in next beta after 15.6, or next whql (whichever comes first).

All I've seen you do is troll and lol, and say anyone's nuts who doesn't agree with your point of view.

Don't really see how any of what I said is contestible.

Why it might be a surprise to some that large performance uplift may come with driver updates on a card with completely new technology is beyond me.

As you seem to think that's so unforgiveable, I'll eagerly await your reaction when NVIDIA releases Pascal some time next year, which will include:

new memory
new memory controller
a new architecture with much larger changes than the last 3-4 generations, which wasn't intended for consumer cards and which was rushed in as a stop gap when Volta was hugely delayed
new node with an additional transition from bulk planar to FF as well as a very large shrink

hint: it won't go smoothly. at all.

Well it might, I mean Nvidia have an extra year to make sure it works compared to the competition. Plus to be fair if they release something even 10% faster they win because they already won.

Looks like I'll be keeping my 295x2 and 290x's me thinks. Nice card, not as powerful as I hoped and the omission of HDMI 2.0 is a joke... as is DVI... these to me, will stop certain people buying... for one... me. Nice card and looks great, can't believe how small it is... suprb and great decision to do seperate cooling... Shame, but not quite there me thinks. Be interesting to see how it copes over next 12 months to the current gen on 4k gaming...
