After having my Jag's window put in whilst it was in my drive, and my old MR2 stolen, crashed and burnt out when I was in France, I thought the ****** of the world might be finished with me. Sadly it appears not.

Was woken up at 5am this morning by police knocking at the door asking if I was the owner of the blue MR2 parked around the corner, as someone had broken in and trashed it.

Went outside to find this:

They've put two deep scratches in the paint, smashed the window, lock and door handle, tore the bottom half of the dash apart and cut various wires, nicked the stereo and my little Möbius camera I had in the glovebox. And because I'd taken out the battery as it's currently being replaced under warranty, there was no chance of them being able to drive off in it anyway

I've just started a new job and was hoping to save up a bit of cash, tidy the car up a bit and take it on a few trackdays, but it looks like I won't be able to do that now :(

Time to invest in some CCTV I think - I don't even live in a particularly bad area (for South East London at least!) but it seems like you can't get away from this sort of stuff now.

Always wanted one and seeing how there's now a rather finite number of these on the road in good condition, this actually really saddens me. Fact that they probably just wanted to joyride it and burn in the nearest industrial estate just makes this worse :(

He's only just moved from France. It's not that simple to just "move".

Sorry to see that - it's gutting seeing your pride and joy, or even something you're just fond of get broken :(

Where abouts in SE London are you? (I'm near Greenwich/Blackheath).

I'd love to catch these sort of people in the act, it'd almost be worth them doing it to catch them, hope you get it sorted soon geekman.

Bet they had their puzzled face on going to all that trouble to try and start it and it wouldn't.

what are the laws on this.
if you catch said thief in the act and you pummel the turd and say break a cheek bone, nose, eye socket, poop on him, what's the consequence ?

It can only be in self defense, it's a very grey area tbh, when I got my shotgun license I looked into a while ago, personally I'd have no problem using it if I found some-one in my home at 2am. Finding some-one breaking into your car and giving them a good tickling you'll probably end up in more trouble than the *****.
