My MSI R9 390 finally came today and it's a pretty amazing card. I did previously have the GTX 970 before selling it early this year.

The card itself is massive though.

Playing the witcher 3 on ultra everything @ 1080p getting around 59 fps until combat and movement which brings it down to 44-47... not too sure thats good?

Vram is only hitting about 2gb if that..

Temps are the biggest surprise, getting 73c, considering it's pretty hot today aswell.

Anyone know the headroom in overclocking these cards?

Only running mine at standard clocks for the moment, but Im using a Dell 34" (3440*1440) and really just getting into Dirt Rally and possibly Skyrim soon

There aren't that many reviews out there for the 390, the 380 and 390X seem to get more attention.

Still from what I've seen it seems like stock 390s beat stock 970s but overclocking is where 970s win big. Interesting point about drivers in the below site but drivers are of course another AMD weakness.

Also lets not forget that 970s use much less power at stock but also they do also cost a little more (well... £3 more).

I wonder how 390s are for coil whine compared to the 970...

I'm happy with it so far. Fact it won't start going crazy if I use 3.5gb Vram is a bonus down the line. Power doesn't bother me. And the 390 cost less then the 970 new.

I have just jumped from a 7870 to the MSI 390X

Big enough jump for me :) Should do me a year or two until the newer 22/16nm cards or Fury X has a revision with 8GB HBM etc.

Was surprised at how much of a jump I got from the card. Please with it, especially as I got this for £287 delivered via a supplier at work :D

Hitman was running around 47 fps average on the old card, this one with all settings to max and its hitting around 98fps, good enough for me.
