What do people think of the new 208GTi?

It does decent mpg, looks cool and have decent performance.

I have been offered one on lease at 201 per month with 1 month down.

Seems like an alright car, but I don't know why people would spend money on one when the fiesta ST exists for less cash.

That's seems like a good deal! Not looked into leases but can you get a Fiesta ST for that much? The Fiesta is OcUK Motors golden child when it comes to hatches atm so you will be hard pushed to sell the 208GTi to em!

Only driven the smaller engined variants - but the 208 is a decent car in general.

You'll realistically need to drive one, but I'd expect it to be quite a good little steer. Not sure why anyone would moan about the dash given how the fiesta looks inside (melted transformer)

That seems like a reasonable deal as well if it's a 2 year lease - comes in a little less than the equivalent ST over the term

The 208 Gti "by peugeot sport" is most likely the best small hot hatch around at the moment. Mechanical LSD, brembo brakes and power has been upgraded to 208BHP.

It'll not be as spectacular as you maybe think (nippy but no rocket ship) - it's still going to weigh just over a tonne

But at least every hot hatch in the last 13 years has weighed over a tonne
Even a 106gti (a smaller car segment) weighed over a tonne.

It is actually one of the lightest in this generation.

I wasn't really commenting on it being good bad or otherwise, just that it'll end up being about 180bhp/t or so - its not exactly going to be slow but hardly world beating

No idea if this is a good deal or not but Evo magazine rated the 208 GTi on par with the Fiesta ST (well, 208 beat the ST in one showdown, then ST beat the 208 in a small hot hatch group test) so I wouldn't say the ST is miles better.

In fact I know somebody with an ST and he says he has to avoid potholes at all costs :p

It'll be the regular Gti for that money

It's the GTi Prestige

I have been looking at the ST, But unfortunately its impossible to find one for around the £200 mark in a 1+23 format. They want around £245 With the added mileage.

And based on reviews the GTI has a more comfortable ride and gets a few more MPG than the ST.

This was £146 on a 1+23 a few weeks ago with 10k miles from Nationwide vehicle solutions, few people got them but assume it was a misprice

Unless they've changed more than 75% of the annoying things that the 207 had, the 208 will eventually make you want to kill yourself.

I looked at both and test drove both. Went with the Fiesta ST.

Was a bit torn about the interior in the 208. Whilst the cabin felt slightly more "upmarket" compared to the Fiesta, the seating position/steering wheel position was not as good. Also the seats in the Fiesta were loads more comfortable and better looking (they look like an afterthought in the 208).

The Fiesta also had some nice touches like voice control for music and keyless entry/start that the 208 didn't offer. The prestige does have some things the ST doesn't have as well but that's only cornering fogs and a panoramic roof I seem to remember. It does have touch screen nav and the ST's nav is not touch screen but then the 208 just follows the horrible design of just sticking a tablet screen onto the centre console which I think looks naff. Neither of which I wanted. Keyeless entry and tart however is a revelation - probably one of the best options/gadgets on a card I have had to date. So nice not to have to faff about with keys.

and then to the driving experience...feels more of an event in the Fiesta. The whole car pivots around you unlike in the 208 and whilst the suspension is harder in the Fiesta, it certainly pays dividends in corners. Also the sound symposer in the Fiesta is a great little extra and sounds great. Nice to hear it growl at you all the time :p

They are both good but the Fiesta is a better hot hatch in my opinion.

The 208 gti has just been updated and I haven't driven that one, although I think the only difference is slight facelift and a different engine putting out 208bhp and 300nm of torque.

Oh also, don't forget you can get the ST mountuned for £600 so it has 215bhp, 320nm of torque and you can still keep your warranty intact as it is Ford approved (it is even in their brochure for the Fiesta)
