German pensioner had a Panzer tank in his cellar

If they are no longer functional and he kept them because he likes old war things then i dont see the problem but if they are functional he should have had them made "safe" and then again no problem. However if he is a nazi and kept them for some strange reason then they should be taken off him. Unfortunately the article does not say which it is.

"Strange reason" being?

That's is awesome! How on earth did he get it in there if it took 9 soldiers to get it out? Crazy old loon!! :D

Amazing! Worth just a few £, probably over a million if its genuine from 1944. Germany has such strange laws when it comes to Nazi history etc it boggles my mind. Its like they try to just block it out and ignore it ever happened.

says 30 years ago during a snow storm he was seen driving it around town
Haha there was an old rich guy who lived near us, who used to drive around in a Chieftain tank. They put an end to it tho when he trashed the roads.

Says he's 78 so that would make him 3 years old at the start of WW2, bit young even for Hitler Youth movement ;)
Pretty sure the 'snow catastrophe' mentioned in the article was actually Feb 1979, a band I was in at the time was due to play a tour of British Bases in Germany then and it took us 3 days to get across there. Missed the first gig completely but apparently the German Police had declared northern Germany temporarily closed to all road traffic due to the conditions so no way would we have made it anyway.

Should have got a tank :p;)

It makes me wonder how he got it, PzV's were in short supply towards the end of the war.

Surely your mockery only shows a complete discard for humanity and a total lack of knowledge of WW2?

People think ISIS are brutal but the Nazis were infinitely worse, the horrors they succumbed people are unprecedented.

You do realise the British Empire did stuff just as bad as the Nazis ever did? somehow we got to rewrite history the Nazis not so much.

I really wouldn't make a huge distinction between the acts of ISIS and the Nazis either some things are a bit different but both are guilt of some equally horrendous acts.

Most likely disabled by something relatively minor but that they couldn't fix under the situation in the closing chapter of the war and left abandoned where it was.

He's 78, born in 1936, 9 when the war ended, probably not a Nazi hoarding a secret weapons stash, but quite possibly a potential nutjob.

Did you nazi that coming?

Assuming the guns arent live, there's no reason he cant keep them, also lol@ the idea of using that in the fourth reich, there are very few nations on earth that don't have the hardware to deal with a panther.

That said, pretty nice, glad to see people are keeping these things around and in good condition, say what you like about their history and purpose but its things like that that keep the history alive and we need to keep the history alive to stop it happening again.
