I washed a double duvet and it took so long to dry its got a moldly smell to it.

Before I just go and buy a new one, will this smell ever go away on its own?

I would take it to a dry cleaners and ask them to wash it, unless they cost more than the price of a new one.

Wash it again. Smell should bugger off. Dry it more quickly! If it's synthetic they can often be tumble dried.

Take it to a proper place to do it. I take all mine to a local dedicate duvet washing place. Like £6 to get it done. Worth getting done right.

rewash with a bit of bleach and at a higher temperature.

if you'd air dried it yesterday then it would have been crispy dry before you'd got the second peg on it :D

Oh god no!

Bleach are you mad! dont ever put bleach in your washing machine. it causes the drum seal to rot.

OP, re wash and tumble dry on cool or air dry outside for the whole day. My winter duvet is 14tog duck feather and I wash it once a year and hang to dry (occasionally take it to the dry cleaners to be tumbled as its a super king its rather large for a conventional dryer). its now nearly 15 years old and looks as good as the day I bought it.

Yea, we use 'Dettol anti-bacterial laundry cleanser' for that sort of bedding (used it mainly when daughter was in disposable nappies).

Definitely don't use bleach!
