The Derp Is Strong, Xbox One 4K Gaming

Textures aren't just flat rendered onto the view (would be a pretty boring game). They are mapped onto meshes, stretched, tiled etc. Higher resolution textures = more detailed textures.

You could have a wall texture at 1024x600 and it would look mostly fine when you're looking directly at the wall and its filling the screen. But when you move towards the wall (zoom in) it would get ugly. Higher resolution textures gives you that detail.

I am aware.

Oh wow, you really should know better considering what you often talk about.

I was being flippant but it kind of went over your head and other peoples by the looks of it :S poking fun at the fact that typically a lot of console games aren't even rendered at the native res of the screen let alone 4K (sometimes used for "AA", sometimes for performance).

G'damn someone is on fire with getting burns on this forum tonight.

Spoiler: it isn't the op nor the youtube idiot

So apparently World of Tanks is getting a 4K texture update for Xbox One, Very different to actually having the resolution at 4K.

But apparently to some people who don't understand tech this now means the Xbox One is a 4K console playing games at 4K.

The intelligence and common sense of some people is quite worrying, I've seen this YouTuber come out with a lot of really really dumb statements in the past but this one really takes the cake :p

He does state at the beginning that he is not sure if it is true... and he's correct about the 4k cable...

Hope that wasn't in reference to me - seeing as I've explained exactly how higher resolution textures work in regards to screen resolution a good few times over the years on these forums and Spoffle well knows that hence really shouldn't have taken the bait (wasn't exactly trolling but it was a bit of "PC supremacist" parodying).

One of the very things I've done over the years is a proof of concept (in cooperation with another programmer) of a realtime light mapping system (not the same as the shadow map systems used in most recent games) that works with those very concepts:

I've seen comments on Youtube on other videos with Xbox Fanboys trying to bash PS4 users by saying that the Xbone will have 4k gaming soon. So they think a console that struggles with 1080p will somehow be able to do 4k? Proof that people really are idiots.

Consoles have been grabbing onto things like this and blowing them well out of proportion for years, they do try and oversell themselves and there are plenty of ill informed people who'll gobble it up. Guy I work with thought the PS4/X1 were well ahead of PCs in terms of computing power which is quite sad as we work in an office...

I don't think it is "impossible" to run, let's say, "World of Tanks" in 4K... do you?
