New car time

Noob question, but what do you mean it moved under it's own power? :p

Its engine driving the wheels and moving it :) It's been in storage for ten years and I'd never been able to try the gearbox. Fortunately it appears to work, although the fluid level was very low. Just a case of topping it up, though. Got fresh fluids and a filter to go in, then we'll see what it does on the road...

They're vacuum operated :)

This is what it sounds like when it's warm, from the right end :p

That just sounds wonderful. I can't wait to see your progress.

I suppose I shouldn't be surprised that everything seems to work nicely after all these years.. American cars seem to be rather reliable! Could you, should you desire to, run that as a daily car to and from work all year round with minimal trouble?

Yea, it wouldn't be a problem. It's not particularly complicated so as long as it's all in good health and serviced properly it should soldier on indefinitely - particularly if you add electronic ignition and a few other minor tweaks. The fuel consumption might get to you, though :p

This car originally had air-con but it's long been deleted, but I might look to reinstate it. Wouldn't take much :)

New update here, about getting it back: http://goo.gl/UelDHr

I'm a little further down the road with it these days but I've been off for a while, so I've some catching up to do on the updates front :)

Stay tuned for more!

How do you think you'll find Left Hand Drive in this country?

Only major thing I can think of of is attempting to overtake big opaque things, like lorries and caravans.

Lovely car by the way. I desperately want to go for something old like this. Datsun 240z is the dream but finances, or lack thereof, might spoil my fun :p

I've owned/driven plenty of LHD stuff here and never found it to be a problem, if I'm honest. When it comes to overtaking it's usually just a case of dropping back enough (or manoeuvring) to get a decent view but, truth be told, I've never really found myself in a situation where I've not been able to see past - or get past - something. I'm sure it'll happen at some point, though. About the only thing that was occasionally a pain were parking ticket machines, as they'd be on the wrong side. Nothing a short walk or lean couldn't fix, though. :p

Have a look in mainland Europe for 240Zs, decent ones are much cheaper out there. You can get a pretty good example for around £8k, if not a little less - I almost went down that road!

Oooo I would love a 240z, one of the best looking cars ever in my eyes.
