BBC licence fee could be means tested everyone pays regardless of whether or not they own a telev

This applies to a person who has declared and the visit to the address from the licensing enforcement officer who then confirms there is no license required.

You mean Crapita employee! Last time they came to the door I just told them I don't watch live TV and they said that was fine and went away.

I have not watched live TV in over 3 years and have no intention of ever doing so again. I still receive letters from the Licencing people, but they just go in the shredder.
Considering the utter ***** broadcast by most TV stations I stopped watching and so, don't pay the licence fee any more. And regardless of what the Goverment decide, there is no way I am paying for something I don't use.

Why would you pay for it anyway? you are not required to have a tv licence. Regardless of what you do.

I had a run in with a licence inspection, I've been ignoring the letters and eventually one caught me at home, he seemed decent at first so I let him in and demonstrated my set up, a pc in my front room with a second display hooked up for movies. He said fine just give me your name and sign this... I asked him politely to leave at this point as it's none of thier business, he got shirty so I basically went nose to nose with him, had to raise my voice and and told him to walk out via the door or be thrown out of the window.
He left at that point.

That's the first and last time I'll entertain these idiots.

Not sure if I believe you.

But have you ever replied and said that? We did and they stopped sending stuff.

Why wouldn't you belive him, we don't all live in the stone age you know!

Making a declaration makes no difference, 6-12 months later they'll reinitiate the harassment campaign.

I have only owned a tv for a short period (6-8 months) when I was around 18 and I'm 32 now. Only thing I am interested in watching is the sport. When I visit family the tv is always on and it bores me!

I love how people on here give it the big'un when it comes to the tv license inspectors. Its hilarious. "YEAH EFF THOSE FOOLS, I WAS GOING TO THROW HIM OUT THE DOOR INNIT."

Congrats on 'sticking it to the man'

Why is that harsh? Do you use every service that's paid for through general taxation? I certainly don't.

Good reason to add a new one? Not really.

I pay £80 a month to the local council and all they door for me at the moment is collect my bins. I wouldn't want to pay another £15 a month on top for a tv service I don't use.

Its not sticking it to the man...
Its like some random person asking to come into your property then asking you for money.
You would tell them to get stuffed.

I simply registered online that I don't need one & that was that. Not had a single letter or visitors about the issue & that was a year ago. Personally I don't use BBC services & the selection on BBC is mostly terrible.

The shows I do watch are exclusively paid for content (Alan Partridge, Red Dwarf 1-6, Blackadder) - I own the rights to these individually. It also shows by the age of the TV shows I do watch from the BBC how long it's been since they've made anything worth watching.

I find it hard to believe all these people not having TVs. Or having TVs and some form of access supposedly not installed.

You can have a TV and not require a license, and these days with all the catch up, on demand and video streaming sites, it's not hard not to require a license.
Just watch TV programs about an hour after they are shown and save money.

Yep. You only need a licence if you watch TV live.

This whole licence ******** should stop. Just declare it a real public service and fund it form government budget.

If it seems too expensive, cut the budget and tell them make more Planet Earths worth selling around the globe.
