Just noticed this pop up on Facebook, who in there right mind drives the wrong way down a slip road

Shocking footage of dozens of drivers performing illegal u-turns to avoid a traffic jam on the M1 has been released by Northamptonshire Police.
The CCTV footage was recorded just before 9pm on Sunday, July 5, as cars approached a queue caused by a serious incident at junction 19.
It shows dozens of drivers at junction 18 near Crick performing illegal u-turns on the motorway and heading the wrong way down a slip road to get off the M1.
PC Dave Lee from the force's tactical roads policing unit said: "These people were behaving ridiculously.
"People joining the motorway aren't expecting other vehicles to be coming towards them.
"These drivers were not only putting their own lives at risk, they were risking the lives of everyone heading down that slip road."
Officers are now investigating the footage so action can be taken against the drivers who performed the illegal u-turns.

monkey see monkey do.

seen loads drive down the hard shoulder to get onto a slip road in traffic jams.

Whilst driving down the hold shoulder is pretty dangerous, it's nothing compared to driving down a slip road into oncoming traffic. Hopefully the police catch them and through the book at them

I would think nothing will happen to them as they will just say something along the lines of i assumed it was a diversion as majority of traffic was going this way or some other bull story like sat navs

I do hope something happens though

Have kind of mixed feelings about it (not to say it isn't very dangerous) - not really knowing the full circumstances. If they'd been waiting there for hours due to the incident then I can't really blame them and infact the highway agency or whoever should have managed it better given they appear to have been watching it on the cameras for awhile.

Good to see the CCTV operator get a nice closeup of the coaches number plate, hopefully will get prosecuted. Same goes for the guy who saw the copper and then rejoined the motorway!

That's ridiculous! Just been up the M1 for hours sitting in traffic and would never have dreamed to do this!

Please hand in your driving license if you 'can't really blame' people who are driving UP an active sliproad with oncoming traffic heading towards them. It's pathetic and indefensible. Every single one of them should be hit with some sort of charge.

The guy in the coach is unfit to drive passenger vehicles - he actually blocks the sliproad entirely at one point!

It doesn't surprise me seeing car drivers do it, but I've never understood why professional drivers do stuff like this. Surely it makes no difference to the coach driver if he's stuck in traffic - he'll be paid by the hour so it's not like he's going to lose out. Doing something like that in a massive signwritten vehicle is almost guaranteed to lose you your job - even if a CCTV camera doesn't pick it up, chances are one of the other drivers or even the passengers would take the reg and report it.

Guy in a signwritten big name courier van went storming past me today in a 50mph roadworks SPECS zone. Presumably he'll plead that he needs his license for his job once he hits 12 points

guy in the orange ppe was being a bit stupid. last thing you want to do is get out and start directing traffic.

Who was he? Thought it was an unmarked cop car with the lights, but he had a boiler suit on.

Madness though, especially the coach driver, but then again doesn't surprise me most of them drive like madmen!

Christ almighty what a freeforall. I can't believe how many people thought that was a good idea! And that coach!

Imagine coming down the slip road and facing that lot coming towards you. I think I'd wanna turn around myself :D

Didn't say I agree with them doing it. (Probably should have said in some ways I don't blame them).

EDIT: Not sure I can maybe convey how I mean it over the internet but I can see why some might be tempted to do it if they had been for instance sitting in mostly non-moving traffic for hours due to an incident with nothing organised to get traffic cleared - which is a situation I've been in - despite the police being ok with it it took almost 5 hours for the highway agency to get themselves organised just so people could turn around safely.
