Plusnet have increased thier line rental, up to 17 quid a month which is a joke, im on 80meg fibre to cab, I enjoy the uncapped aspect as I download a lot but don't really need 80meg.

So I'm seriously thinking of jumping ship, maybe to 40mb unlimitedand save some mmoney, any thoughts?

Bt is 16.99 and sky is 16.40 so its looking pretty standard. I can renew my yearly saver line rental with plus net for 12.99pm now prior to the prices going up in September. I will be doing that as I still have 6 months left on my 18 month contract for my fibre.

Line rental is he biggest **** take ever we don't even use our landline

But you are using it for the VDSL connection. Line rental is the cost of maintaining the infrastructure of the network overall, not just the phone. It's basically Openreach's cut of the pie.

The only concerning thing I can see is the change in the cost of the line rental saver. The discount is now so low that it almost isn't worth bothering with.

I actually only have my broadband from PlusNet with my line still with BT. So won't be affected at the moment, but where one provider goes others often follow...

Edit: It looks like BT have already changed their rates.

They let me jump down to 40/20 unlimited for £10.00 a month plus line rental when I called them about it.

Might be worth trying.

So what would people think if they paid only for Broadband but if they have a line fault they get charged the full amount for the Openreach visit, regardless of where the fault lies? For an 'LL14/SFI repair, that currently sits at £180+VAT.

How does that differ from now?
I'm currently paying more than that annually for line rental I don't use.
And in the 15 years I've lived here I've never once had a line fault.
Quite a saving I think.

It seems that they can 'somewhat' justify it whilst we are still using these hybrid fibre/copper services, but when it becomes a full fibre link I think they may struggle.

Line rental & broadband should be combined to avoid misleading the consumer.

You still need the line though, without it you'd have no internet.

Pay it yearly, works out cheaper

if ofcom force BT openreach sell 2 packages, one for broadband and line rental without call for no extra cost, other one same with call at £17.

everybody will opt the one without call, BT openreach will be out of business overnight
