I'm crumbling...

Hardly anything in it really. I know the game itself runs much better than the benchmark too..

I'll see what happens with this Fury X, then make a decision.

OK so I said I would never return to Nvidia, but man, AMD have made this choice almost impossible.

I want a Fury X. However, I don't want to wait any longer. I bought a new rig and now I feel it's time for new GPUs. Thing is, try finding a Fury X. There's no lead time and no solid date for any stock.

So I'm slowly but firmly being pushed back to team green (well, I already am but..).

So. I have a few last things I need to check. Please answer these based on facts, as it's very important !

Does the 980ti use any more power than the Titan Black? I currently run a 850w PSU I really don't want to change it (my goal is two 980tis, btw). Don't worry too much, Titan Blacks are fine. I also don't plan to overclock, hence SLI.

Is one 980ti really as quick or quicker than two 780ti/Titan Black? because in benchmarks it's a good 20% faster than my two Superclock bios TBs can manage.

Does any one here have one 980ti running 4k? how is the gaming experience? is the card powerful enough? or do I definitely need two?

If I go with one card it will be something bloody special. I'm eying up the 8 pack or the EVGA Classy.

When is the Lightning coming? any one know?

So yeah, that ought to about do it. I have T minus 6 days until I get paid, but that could be a moot point given the 8 pack isn't in 'til the 3rd of August.

I just feel that £75 extra over the basic card gets you so much more.

Oh god, I hate you Nvidia you green bar stewards..... /spits on the ground.

Actually after getting my freesync monitor and seeing the performance of the 980ti and Fury-X/Fury, I am more than happy with my 290 until a die shrink comes along.

Very nice scores, but for now I am only interested in one card. Having had a chat with PGI I felt that one of these new cards (as yet to be decided) is enough to keep me where I was at without having to buy two right now.

I'm trying to get away from SLI/CFX. I know SLI is good, but it's not as good as one card..

I think I may have possibly found a Fury X, and that was what I wanted so hopefully that will go through and I will be sorted for now. I've got a very powerful spare PSU in place (Enermax Revolution 1250w) and I think I can fit that in my Alienware (would need to have a good look over the case first mind). So I can always go Fury X CFX at a later date. Not now though, I want back to one card for a while so I can play through a couple of games that refuse to work with SLI.

Looking at the minimum and avg FPS of Metro it's really not worth having two cards. I know the FPS are higher (I always ignore the minimum as it's always pants in the benchmark) but they're not higher enough to make it any more playable than it already is.

I actually bought the Redux bundle today. I never played 2033 (was too buggy and launch and I kinda forgot about it) but Last Light? I downloaded it when it came out just for a look (as I always do with new games) and before I knew it I was completely hooked ! absolutely STUNNING game and a joy to behold. And there were some moments in it that I will never forget as long as I live.

The flashback on the plane for example was one of the most moving scenes I have ever witnessed in a video game.

And your little friend that came with you was touching also. Amazing game !

Fury crossfire review if deciding if a 980Ti would be better. Fury pro win the best bang for buck here.. Crossfire scaling is close to 90% in most cases.

That's an option if the Fury X falls through. As I said though, trying to get off that boat for now. It would be a couple of months before I get the second card any way. I could do it now, but there's still some summer left and I don't want to wipe myself out for another whole month.

Will think it through. If I go Fury non X I would want two though :)

I don't overclock my GPUs so that's all meh.

I only paid £450 too, so I got a spare chunk of cash left over toward my new RC Zonda :D

Seriously though the last time I overclocked a GPU it died, so I thought better of it.

The Amp Extreme does high 1400's out of the box anyway, so no real need to manually OC

And with 980ti's not needing any extra voltage the chance of killing one is nill

I'm more than happy with what I got thanks. £450 was £50 cheaper than the cheapest 980ti, so the performance belies the price. They're also incredibly hard to get also.

If you go and read over Bit-tech's review of the Fury X there is less than 1% in it at 4k. Yes I could have overclocked a 980ti but that means spending £100 more in some cases to get cooling good enough to sustain those clocks.

Any way, it's done. Nothing can change my mind because I've bought and paid for the card :)

It was always going to be tough for me to buy Nvidia this time around for many reasons. Only if the Fury X was truly poor at 4k would I have avoided it and it clearly isn't.

Overclocking, drivers.. It'll all come in time. It's still brand new technology, Nvidia had ages given they were already running Maxwell for almost a year before releasing Titan X.

Edit. Had I gone TI I would have AIOd it given all of my other GPUs are AIO cooled. There's just no beating it IMO. And that adds another £100.

Fair play, as long as you are happy, some pretty odd sideways thinking and I think you'll end up with 2 of them, so not really saving money tbf, where as looking at the 1500's 980ti you could have gotten away with one.

I'm very happy ta :D it's the card I wanted.

At 4k it will be faster than my TB SLI. As I mentioned, it's within 1% of a 980ti when both are ran at stock. I have overclocking to come (when it gets sorted out) and yes, I could add another one at a later date :)

But for right now all I care about is 4k, on a single card. I've got a few games I simply could not play before that I am itching to complete. Looking at the min/max FPS of GTAV it's a good 7 FPS faster at the minimum end than what I had.

I bought it for 4k, to game with. I want rid of multi GPU issues so I will run it alone until the next card comes along, probably the Pascal series.

Just a thought but it may be possible to crossfire a FuryX with an aircooled Fury Pro. That would be an interesting combo since the sapphire Tri-x is supposed to be quieter than the FX..

Glanced over this thread & never read second page. But from what i gather your fannying on over nothing really.

You own 2 perfectly capable cards for your needs and you want to upgrade, even though you dont play much. I know that bug gets us at times but save your money, spend a bit on the wife and put the rest away for Pascal.

This. I went out myself and bought a 980ti because i wanted to play w3 and my 780 was having issues and now that i have it i play freaking hearthstone and Grim Dawn and not witcher 3 :P

Do you have something against Nvidia specifically? Or are you just an irrational AMD fanboy? Best to go with your head in either case.

I run two 980 Tis on a EVGA 850W G2 no problem whatsoever. If you look at actual SLI reviews for these cards you'll see that total system power consumption barely exceeds 600 watts.

One card is not enough for 4k, you definitely need two if you're looking for 60 FPS with decent settings.

And yeah definitely go for the good aftermarket coolers even with SLI (as long as you have decent airflow).

You are new here -ALXAndy has always been more on the Nvidia side when it comes to GPUs.
