Super Southern Meet X (or 10)

He drove my car and I drove his car and we both drove around the car-park for a few minutes, which was fine as the car-park was pretty large. Managed to give it full throttle once or twice! He was talking about how he used to have a Polo and he misses it, so I handed him the keys, and much to my surprise he handed me the keys to his Focus!

We were both aware of the lack of insurance cover, but we didn't leave the car park, so no harm done. Just a bit of fun. You're not going to report us Fox, so stop trying to be a spoilsport! :p

We are both 20 year olds called Tom. Maybe we just got mixed up. ;)

Frankly it was the only anti-social bit of driving over the whole day :p

That rather depends on what you consider to be "anti-social". :p

I averaged 29MPG that day... (not including the trip up and home)

Thats in a car which can usually do 38MPG in town and 47MPG on a run. :D

His own insurance wouldn't have covered him so I think he would have cared if it got binned lol.

I imagine the insurance cost is horrendous 2-3k?

You dont even know the half of it

Polo - 1st year of driving = 3k

Fiesta ST-3 Brand new 14 plate - 1 years no claims = 1.1k

Focus ST-3 Brand New 15 plate - 2 years no claims =1.5k

Im glad IT pays well or id be...well not driving that car.

-------------------------------------------

About the driving each other cars, to be fair it was fairly limited round the car park. I was fairly accepting of the low risk of the offer id given my polo tom counterpart and told him to drive sensibly, which he did :) Have to enjoy life a little!

Side note. I still insanley miss my Polo even with the focus. Most enjoyable and fun car you could ever hope for! Its got character with what it lacks!

Well you asked me not to crash, you didn't ask me to drive sensibly. ;)
I think I caused some mini heart attacks when I parked though. I'm used to having a tiny bonnet overhang!

3K for your first year in a Polo?!

£1700 for my first year in the Polo
£760 for my second year in the Polo (1yr NCB)
£600 for my third year in the Polo (2yrs NCB)

I also work in IT... Dude, stop with the copying. :p

I'm not sure what comes next... Your Focus felt too quick for me with 258(?)BHP, and Ryans SIII felt too slow for me with 160(?)BHP... Something around the 200BHP mark then... A MK5 Golf GTI perhaps.

How do you feel about your current 55BHP Polo ... ? I thought it had at least 90BHP :D , but then again its not all about the BHP figure :P power to weight and delivery of the power thats where it matters .

"53.6BHP" according to the spec sheet when new, so with almost 140,000 miles on the clock I dread to think how many HP it has now. I imagine it is less than 50! The Polo is a fairly heavy car for what it is, weighing in at around 1100KG, so even if it has all 53.6BHP, that is only 49HP per ton. As for the power delivery, well I think it got lost in the post. :p

The engine is totally gutless but it sounds nice if you thrash it because it is a triple, the suspension is absolutely hopeless (you can rock the car with one hand until it is almost hopping from side to side!), it has been incredibly unreliable in the time I have owned it, the gearbox is currently on the way out, it has no air-con/electric windows/etc, and I have been dreaming about replacing it ever since I bought it.

But truth be told, I do love it to bits and I will miss it when it is gone. It has an awful lot of memories attached to it, and I know the ins and outs of how it drives and I can compensate for its foibles. I did get some great lift off oversteer when I was chasing Ryan in his SIII Coupé on Saturday as well! :)

It is a nice manageable size as well, perfect for town driving, not so much on the motorway or a nice B road. (I spend most of my time on B roads, even on my commute)

I was going to say, power per ton ;-)
IT thankfully pays well currently but as long as you're in the correct area and not working for a local council!
My dad's DB7 had a better fuel economy than the X type which is why the Mrs has allowed me to start the ball rolling on the DB9 (not new, christ I still have a mortgage to pay as well!)
Did anyone see that hippy looking cyclist crash into the road sign at all? I had that panic moment thinking I caused him to do it but luckily it was a case of another cyclist being an idiot!

Forgot to add, age increases BHP on most* engines. It's because of the oil wells and the bores becoming smoother over time and some of the other areas like the stem seals etc. It's not true for all cars but when I used to build E-type V12's it was a common occurrence in my dad's work shop especially on the 6 cylinder versions!

p.s. if you like E-types check out New Forest classic cars on facebook. Elegant is an understatement!

SLOW!

My SIII...

It will be turbo'd at some point in the next decade!

ALSO! I really do need a Hi-Res copy of that picture of my car... It makes it look so good!

Haha it is by no means slow! That was the wrong word! It just doesn't (yet) have the sort of performance I'm after. If it did 40MPG however, I would be very tempted. I was a little shocked when you said I "might get 30MPG" on a run. :D

I do love how the SIII's look mind you, I just wish they had made more of an effort with the engine... Which is what you are going out of your way to put right! :)

I still wanted to hear the noise of your Hyundai ...

It did sound nice when it left me standing numerous times! :p

I have some video somewhere of me chasing it down some of the lanes at... some... MPH.
but for... reasons... perhaps I shouldn't share it... ;)

The member who had a CTR that fell down a hill wasn't it? I remember seeing the video and thinking  throughout.

Wasn't a Southern Meet incident mind.
