EVGA GeForce GTX 980 Ti Kingpin Edition Launched

You have got to hand it to EVGA, they really know how to destroy a brand !!!!

they would be pre tested cards?
im guessing they have to actually test the card to find out the asic or no?
still see them getting flamed for it tho lol

What next? Add a price premium based on how much coil whine a card has? Christ almighty as if it wasn't bad enough with the old "supply and demand, exchange rate, early adopter premiums" this is just taking the ****.

Ahem.

+1

Part of the silicon lottery is it can be fun if you win it. A good example is amigafan2003 who has a reference card that is faster than most of the non reference ones. It is not an EVGA one either.:D

well most people on forum always said ASIC don't matter so you should be happy. You can still have "silicon lottery" and buy the cheapest version of the EVGA kingpin:D

Don't need any Kingpin cards.

My cards will thrash them on the latest games @2160p even if the Kingpins are using LN2.

No they won't... LN2 980Ti would gut Titan X.

But you wouldn't play games with it anyway :p

Not a chance 4 up @2160p the Kingpins would run out of memory and turn into a stuttering mess running the latest games maxed out.

Kingpin cards are not really for gaming or ultra high resolutions and settings.

With no waterblocks available yet I would also hate to think what would happen if you tried to run 4 Kingpins on air and worse still at 2160p which generates extra heat lol.

And non maxed out with 2160p on ln2 they'd probably give your titans the rogering of a lifetime. Its ok to constantly specify "maxed out" just so you can fall back on a vram advantage, but it can go the other way as well where ram isn't a factor. And in a lot of games the difference between high and maxed out is so incredibly minute there's literally no visual difference anyway.

If you can turn the settings up and use the extra VRAM you do it.

I was thinking about getting one of these Kingpins for a bit of benching fun but this extra level of price gouging has really put me off. As I don't need another 6gb card there is no point in me bothering.

LN2 scores are so irrelevant to industry performance. They're symbolic for what is possible and good for certain peoples repertoire but in terms of meaningful performance they're ridiculed by their impracticability. The leagues are fast becoming a name sake for AIBP to promote products in general. It's a testament to individuals abilities. I never compare cold runs to usable performance, it's pointless.

Well to be fair, you could buy a "72%+" card and get higher ASIC than the people who paid the extra $200 for the "80%+" model so there's still a lottery element to it (not sure if that's actually a good thing though).
