Hi all,

I've got a G1 980ti card and a Phanteks Enthoo Pro Mid Tower Enthusiast Case.

I feel like my card is running too hot and the cooling in my case isn't optiminal. This is my first gaming PC so I need a bit of help from you experts.

After reading a lot of forums about the G1 it seems that my card is running hotter than most, it reaches 80 degrees in most games but people are reporting 70 degrees.

Here are my afterburner settings:

  • Core Voltage - 0
  • Power Limit - 130%
  • Temp Limit - 85
  • Core Clock - +120
  • Memory Clock - +300
  • Fan Speed - Auto
  • Boosts to 1474Mhz stable in games

Are these settings correct? I don't know if I should up the Core voltage or lower the Power Limit or change the fan profile (custom one?)

Also does fan placement within the case itself make a big difference to the temps?

Will provide pictures of my case if it's needed.

Thanks guys,

you need to set up a custom fan profile as the default 1 is rubbish

Any suggestions? Here is one I just made but I don't really know if it's effective:

Yeah, change the fan profile in MSI afterburner, the default one is too conservative.

If you can stand the sound @ 70/80% see how the heat goes with it set at that. That profile looks fine - are you getting those temps with that?. That profile should keep it below 75c if your air flow is alright.

Testing games right now.

Payday 2 - 65 degrees
Battlefield 4 - 73 degrees
Witcher 3 - 76 degrees

Seems like temps have dropped a bit, do most people have the fans at 70%-80% when gaming?

Regarding airflow in my case, is that hugely important at the moment?

Temps are fine stop panicking :D

Haha I know I know, I kept thinking I had a faulty card or something but I've been using the stock fan profile and it's not aggressive enough.

If my card gets close to 80 degrees is that anything to be worried about though? I assumed this card would be very cool

In reviews the temps are 70 degrees but they have the stock clocks enabled, whereas mine is overclocked so I guess having 3-6 degrees temperature increase is normal?

Air flow in a case is VERY important. For any high end setup you will want at least 2 intakes and an exhaust fan, the higher end (and generally, hotter) your system is the more fans you want. I run 3 140MM intake fans and 1 140mm and 2 120mm exhaust fans.

Overclocking increases heat by a lot often, you will also find you almost never have cards perform as well as in reviews, since they use open test benches so in theory, near perfect air flow.

80c is nothing to worry about, I let my GPU's get up to 85c before I start to care.
