Windows 10

No wonder they are giving this away it seems to be loaded with backdoors and corporate spyware, surprised more fuss hasn't been made over the privacy aspect, I've lost count of how many settings screens have privacy messages about what you are allowing them to do and some of them can't even be disabled.

hopefully you have your tin foil hat on ;)

I still haven't had the notification that my reserved copy of Windows is ready to upgrade yet, despite it being D-Day +1.

Is the rollout being delayed?

I forced my update using the iso in the end. I had a couple of hiccups and the upgrade failed but a clean install went fine.

Quite enjoying the new look and features - especially the virtual desktops. I'm coming from Win7 so quite the upgrade.

Also Ctrl + Windows + left/right jumps virtual desktops quickly! I can see this quickly becoming my most used shortcut.

I have the reserve your Windows 10 in Windows Update on 8.1 but doesn't do anything when I click it  Anybody else have this happen? I'll probably do the ISO route eventually.

Kaspersky Internet Security 2015 doesn't work on Win10 either.

I found a link to KIS 2016 on the Kaspersky forum, which does work. Maybe there is a 2016 version of the AV as well.

2015 works fine with me, I had to reinstall it after the Windows 10 upgrade.

My upgrade hasn't even got to the downloading stage still! I'm still getting W10 upgrade reserved. Clicking learn more brings up nothing. Is this just an issue with the automatic windows update?

Or you your blinkers. Most of it can be disabled but at default it really is loaded.
It is overly sharey by default, like most "free" stuff is now. But I would be interested to hear what can't be disabled. I don't have a tin foil hat, but I'll make one if it is needed.

Anyone having problem with Outlook not sending (cannot connect to network). Win10 was done as an upgrade not a clean install. Test settings in Outlook successfully sends a message! Is there a permissions problem on the PST files?

Cheers

Andi.

On a PC with UEFI which has the windows activation key embedded therein, (which he has obtained) is it still necessary to upgrade to Windows 10 before installing from a fresh ISO file?

The reason for my question is that my son had an HP laptop which didn't come with a OS DVD and on which the Windows 8.1 OS became so corrupted that he decided to install a new Linux OS.

He is now asking me to install Windows 10 for him, and we are hoping that it will recognise the 'built in' activation code.... but will it?

Or will it ask for an activation code, and if so, will the one he obtained be OK?

It's "overly" sharey by default because it needs to be. How else can Cortana work, how can settings and files be uploaded to one drive etc.

The key is sorted in the BIOS so you be fine.

OK, I took the plunge and upgraded from 64-bit W7 Home Premium to 64-bit W10 It all went well and it seems to have installed sort of OK, but how long will the constant disc access go on for? It's been like an hour now, and the thing is just sitting there chugging away. It's making other things nigh on impossible to use.

Also, I thought this was supposed to be a smaller install than W7. I started out before upgrade with 611GB free, after it's sitting at 590GB.
