Windows 10

Sticking with Edge for now but getting mighty annoyed by it's love of starting fullscreen! Anyone know of a workaround? :)

Is this when you exit or when you restart pc as if i shrink it down and then click to open it opens at that smaller size

I've still not taken the plunge... I just can't be dealing with any aggro right now, and no matter how many people are saying it's all fine etc I can't bring myself to do it...

However in the name of trying to find out the answers to some of my concerns, can anyone enlighten me about:

* Is there a process for rolling back to whatever you were on before, in the (hopefully unlikely) event that you want to? If there isn't a built-in way could I make an image with CloneZilla and then restore it if I want to go back? (Or will something about the process break my W7 license?)

* If I have my Windows 7 on one partition (more recent UEFI partitions) of a multi-booting system, with the rEFInd boot manager, will the W10 upgrade simply replace the W7 partition exactly, or will it end up clobbering my setup and require a lot of messing about? (Or worse still overwrite the other OS's I have alongside Windows)

Edge seems to start at whatever size I left it for me.

Yes, same for me

Just tried resizing it and it works fine in that fashion. The sticking point for me at least as that I like to dock it to the left hand side of the screen to take up 1/2 the screen!

If you close it from that docked state it re-opens full screen! :(

Guess I'll just have to live with it for now :)

You can roll back as that option is available once you upgrade to 10.

Upgrade is smooth, normally, and i would think it would only go the route of your Win 7

‘Don’t spy on me!’ How to opt out of Windows 10’s intrusive defaults

Windows 10’s pre-installed settings are privacy-intrusive by default, so changing those setting is just a matter of self-respect - and also a message to Microsoft.

Following the release of Microsoft’s new Windows 10 operating system, experts pointed out that it has little care for privacy, collecting on factory presets all available information about you, be it your location history, text messages and any information your share via them, personal contacts and calendar notes about your plans for exact dates, among other things.

Microsoft collects information about you, your devices, applications and networks, and your use of those devices, applications and networks,” says the Privacy Policy and Terms and Conditions nearly all of us accept without reading. “Examples of data we collect include your name, email address, preferences and interests; browsing, search and file history; phone call and SMS data; device configuration and sensor data; and application usage.”

What is this all about? The first thing coming to mind is targeted ads bombardment as well as selling undesired services.

We will access, disclose and preserve personal data, including your content (such as the content of your emails, other private communications or files in private folders), when we have a good faith belief that doing so is necessary to,” the document says.

Sorted out my Chrome and 3D application issues, removed the overclock on my GTX970 and uninstalled EVGA Precision X.... problems solved...

so before I upgrade to W10 I have one final question.

By performing this upgrade will I lose my files and applications and have to reinstall everything/transfer documents. Or will it leave all those intact and basically just replace the OS in the background?

No you will not lose anything. It will just upgrade the OS in the background.

I did it and all went smoothly, glad I did it if I'm honest!

For the first time I can ever remember windows installed without a hick-up and has been workin fine until today . Full crash and wouldn't boot at all , happily I had a USB stick prepared for clean install and after a lot of agro ,it's up and running again. had to go back to restore point etc.Now seems better than before so whether I had previous problem I'll never know.

If you install Windows 10 without a CD key how long does it last before you have to activate it? What happens with an unactivated edition does it mean you won't get windows updates

You don't get updates, you can't change Personalisation preferences and you get nagged. I think it lasts a few days before it starts to stop doing things and then refuses to boot.

I got a free upgrade to 10 but a day after I had a new mobo I didn't know activation was tied to my motherboard

I really don't want to pay £100 to activate windows again but I can see cheap 8.1 OEM keys online I'm wondering if I buy one and use it on an 8.1 windows would I get a free upgrade to OEM 10
