Windows 10

Umm, it's been used since the 1980s. App as a shortened version of Application Software is more accurate than Program.

I know what an App is.

Take a roll back to literally any other version of windows (maybe not 8, ive not used it) and find all your programs under the heading Programs.

So, installation number 6, failed.

Is my PC just too old? It doesn't like something in it apparently....:p

Are you using the same ISO / Download? Have you tried a different 'copy' as the original may be corrupted. How old is your PC?

Yeah I downloaded via the install app at home and I've downloaded the ISO elsewhere.

PC is pretty old, Athlon X2 cpu but it should be within specs.

Usually trying a complete clean install as I'm not bothered about data.

Where can I make a system image backup from Windows 10?

Will the Backup and Restore (Windows 7) option work fine?

For anyone else wondering, I went ahead and used it. All worked fine for creating a system image backup on my external hard drive. I wonder why they keep it labelled as Windows 7?

I also setup file history while I was at it, works fine too! :)

That may be true for those of us that lived in the world of IT

However that is not the case for the vast majority of users and how windows has been laid out since year dot.....

Also

Is there an uninstall App option in control panel?? or is it still uninstall a Program?? under Programs....

Just saying

Agreed

edit: Just to add, this is a cross platform product and App is used in phones and tablets so commonality in terms is the reason...

Hi, I use windows media player quite a lot to rip and burn audio cd`s, will I still be able to do this if I upgrade to windows 10?
I read somewhere that `media center`is not available on win10, are `media center` and windows media player the same thing?
Thanks

So, somehow it's upgraded...I uninstalled some wifi drivers for a card I had in there (which I removed the hardware before but the upgrade failed), uninstalled some bog standard AV software, uninstalled .net.

Instead of a clean install I did an upgrade so it kept files this time, apparently that worked...Annoying as I wanted a complete fresh install. I gues I'll get this to a usable state, take an image (what would people use? I used Macrium image reflect prevously?) then try a fresh install again.

There's literally no difference. The average consumer will understand app better than Program. Why get in a tizz about terminology when it makes no difference to your life?

The vast majority of users will already be familiar with apps from their smartphones. It's really not that big a deal.

Settings > System > Apps & Features lists everything.

No it is not a big deal, change with the times n all that.... however your assumption that majority of users, only applies to those with smartphones and tablets... and not everybody does own them.
