***Hudl2***

I'm thinking of getting my wife a budget tablet for her birthday. Is the Hudl2 worth the money or is the Asus ME181c any good for £119?
Cheers

I just got a 198mb system update.

Lots of small fixes according to the update screen. chrome cast support, charging fixes & i think it mentioned apps to SD.

I think most are blue tooth so you can use any keyboard (that connects via bluetooth). They also have a micro usb socket as well for charging the keyboard.

Update due this month to sort it, apparently.

yeah that didnt help. put mine on charge the other night and was still at the same level the next morning. although looking at the battery history the section where it highlights when it was charging had a solid green line.

power cycle and hey presto charging correctly.

Thinking of getting a Hudl2, can they be rooted and a stock ROM put on? I heard as standard they come with loads of bloatware and rubbish Tesco launcher.

If it's anything like a Hudl1, which I have, it's a close-to-stock Android with a handful of Tesco bloatware apps (easily uninstalled), and a "T" button on the home bar, which I've never pressed, but probably does something supermarket-y. You probably won't need to root it.

I've installed a screen protector on my Hudl2 today and I've noticed that it's really reduced the screen sensitivity, down to the point where using the tablet when it's on a table is basically impossible.

Is there a screen protector that doesn't cause this? I'm using one made by ScreenSkin at the moment.

Is this still a good option for a £100 8" android tablet, or have things moved on now?

Misses was talking about getting a tablet yesterday for around this price point, we've also got £30 worth of club card points to double up, to sweeten the deal. But i'd rather buy the best tab for our budget (<£150) than justify a sub par product just because of the discount.

My main worries with it really are battery life isn't well rated in reviews, though most of the reviews seem to be from when it was released, was this helped with any updates at any point?

Also is build quality still suspect? seems to be a lot of mentions of charging issues, and everytime i've tried to use a display model in a store it's been broken recently (not charging).

Wait a couple of weeks and there will probably be a Hudl3. Suspect it will retail for the £129 that Hudl and Hudl 2 did at launch.

I've had a Hudl 1 for two years. It's been reliable enough, though is feeling a bit sluggish now.

I assume the hudl 3 is just a rumour based on when the original and 2 were released, judging by the quick google search. Is there any further info than that out there?

Alec, I'm not surprised. I'd personally not put anything on the screen as I find unless you press firmly it is very unresponsive. I'm comparing it to my phone on responsivness. I should have taken it back as really don't like it. Is it what you get at the budget end of the tablet market? It's a shame really as it's not a bad tablet for the money but find it's unresponsive digitizer(?) makes it a pain to use.
