Would the police count this as an offensive weapon?

Unfortunately in my experience the law and common sense are rarely bedfellows.

Can you provide examples in context of home invasion, or are you just going to keep pretending the world is against you even though it's been pointed out several times that it's not?

This is a rather contentious issue, however I can say with some certainty that if the Argentinians ever try to burgle my house using a light cruiser, I'm absolutely going to hop in my nuclear powered submarine and give them what for!

Just for the record, that's the stupidest comparison I think I've ever seen on this forum, and that's saying something.

I wonder if that's because you have a warped conception of what common sense means...

Indeed. If you don't read the Daily Mail and actually see what Police investigate and what the CPS charge with, common sense prevails the vast majority of the time. Don't get me wrong, silly decisions do sometimes get made by both the Police and CPS but that's not something I think most people should worry about.

I've done so in the past but don't have the time or the inclination to start researching this again. If you feel like taking your head out of the sand feel free to look into it yourself - a good starting point would be a case I do remember where the homeowner shot and intruder with a spear gun (he was a diver) and the CPS brought a malicious prosecution against the homeowner for that.

Edit: just remembered another one where a homeowner in Manchester I think was faced with an intruder armed with a knife. The homeowner disarmed the intruder and in the struggle stabbed the intruder killing him. Guess what, another malicious prosecution by the CPS. Can't remember what eventually happened in that case.

They are very much the exception rather than the rule and what is reported is rarely the whole story.

So you're overly convinced you cannot protect yourself, but when asked for examples you don't really have any and expect me to do all the work?

The first one I can't find anything for, except a post on this very forum that states:

This is a bit more complicated. He was actually convicted because there appeared to be premeditation (he was already in dispute with the victim and his mates, and the speargun was kept by the front door), but the conviction was overturned on appeal.

The other Manchester case...

Was it this one? http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-manchester-15211250
Manchester man kills the intruder, no conviction.

Or this? http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...stabbed-burglar-death-brawl-protect-home.html
Manchester man kills intruder, no conviction.

Maybe this? http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...ges-stabbing-death-gunman-raided-florist.html
Manchester man kills intruder, no conviction.
