Anyone else lost with social media?

Its for attention seeking whores. I wouldn't worry about 'missing out' ;)

this. I had a look around twitter and its just full of spastics giving a full sit rep on what they are doing e.g In costa having a coffee, on the bog greasing out a log, in Soho gaying it up etc.............

I mean really who gives a crap................. attention seeking retards....

Ah, Snapchat. I forgot all about that. I tried it and is it just me or is the UI dreadful? I couldn't make sense of it at all. It's not intuitive to use in the slightest.

Stopped really caring about social media much anymore. Too many notifications about trash I have no real interest in. Probably because my life is pretty much in the lowest part of the doldrums right now though (Ironically it should be fantastic but life likes to throw in curve balls... with nails in).

TBH, I only even really signed up to see all the pictures my wife was putting up of our daughter.

On another note... I am keenly aware that employers like to see your social media info, so I'm keen to keep my personal life... relatively personal.

Makes me laugh/cringe all the people posting mundane bs like "having a drink" etc.

Seen some other crackers like somebody posting pics of their new credit card (both sides) with a caption like "time to go spending". I just face-palmed and thought 'yeah somebody's gonna be spending but it aint gonna be you' ;). Also seen people post pictures of their driving test certificates etc and national insurance number.

Another thing that worries me is people posting pics of bikes etc they have just brought. Its a thief's wet dream. Then there are loads of people that post images of their kids and where they go to school etc, they are clueless and don't think about what they are doing and who could be watching.

Do you remember the late 90s or early 2000s? Anyone who was in the online environment used mIRC, yahoo/msn messengers and other similar tools because it allowed them to connect to other people.

Instant messengers are dead now, sadly. Even IRC is close.

Most people love themselves a bit too much.

How do you do that? I've never ever understood this.

I don't think it is the same. I was into all of the mentioned back in the day but it's different now. Back then you could easily turn off/on, the tools were there if you needed them.
Now the social platform seems to be so ingrained it's become a way of life for the majority of people. To not use them and keep up with the crowd is seen as odd.

I thought about it a bit and i don't actually see whats wrong with FB.. For me...

1)I only have people on there i want - i can message them instantly have group conversations, we can plan events etc.
2) I dump all my holiday pictures on there - can show family members etc.
3) I can like specific companies/interests and get a daily/hourly spam/feed from them.
4) If a company uses "log in with facebook" i can do that to save having to make another freaking account. I accept they use my details for marketing, its part of the trade off.
5) You can stalk people silently.... ;p lol

Facebook is actually pretty perfect for me.

Twitter is actually pointless to me.
Instagram is purely narcissism.
Pintrest - Advanced narcissism.

Lol!

I found it frightening how old school friends have become. Bald, broken marriages, 2 - 4 children/teenagers and how dire and haggard most of the women have become.

Inspired by their soaps? Or the teenage years of all the binge drinking/raves have caught up with them... That and their lives have barely changed, except most are single mothers.

I used to use social things in maa daay (2000-2005) but now it's just manifested. Why would you 'tweet' buying a pair of jeans, more importantly why would you even read such things?!

I like its strength for reigning in bad behaviour of bad companies though :)

Exactly. Don't follow people who tweet about buying pairs of jeans. Having said that, when following all the NASA stuff and the SJWs wouldn't STFU about that guys shirt being sexist, despite it being made by his FEMALE friend as a present. Man. That was a doozy.

You wouldn't and you don't.
You are aware social media is far more than this, and you don't have to do or see wither of those things you've said.

Why is there still a 140 character limit on Twitter. By the time you get the people you want in your message and/or hashtags, there is hardly any left. Or you end up looking like some silly child with speech problems. "u r usin sml txt"

Ditched Fb in 2008 when it became apparent the platform was being used to collect demographic information for advertising. Coloured my whole view of social networking, so save for forums and reddit I have no desire to be part of them.

Email, iMessage and good old fashioned phone calls work for me.
