This is a slight spec me thread. I still have no SSD and I really should get one. So I'm after an SSD for my OS and that's about it. I barely game so the PC is purely for browsing and doing my time sheets and listening to music.

And then I also could do with a 1TB hard drive for files however I need one in my PC and then another 1TB in my microserver. Unless 2TB are only marginally more expensive.

No real budget but I want to spend as little as it costs to get decent stuff as I'm a tight arse :p

I told you, get a Hitachi/Toshiba HDD (one of the ones OcUK sell) or if you prefer, get a WD Blue. Avoid Seagate.

As for the SSD, 128GB would be good as you could put a few programs on it too, the Samsung 850 Pro is a nice SSD, but most of the ones OcUK sell will be more than adequate. Go by the specs.

I have no clue what I'm looking at though.

What's the WD Reds like?

This kind of thing?

I put the wrong one in the basket. I had the Toshi open and closed the wrong tab doh!

Any benefits in using a red drive in the server?

No, don't get a green for that sort of thing, get a Blue/Black, or a Hitachi/Tosh.

WD Reds are more designed for network storage. Greens are designed for low power usage but due to that I find they have a longer wake time/slower speed. Blue is designed for performance which is what I recommend for normal usage like yours, I'm using a blue current for my storage drive and it works brilliantly. Black is designed for the best performance and while they're also good to use, I find them a bit noisy for my liking.

The 250GB 850 EVO is what I recommend, decent amount of space for the price. There's not that much performance difference compared to the Pro version so just stick with the EVO for more space.

Okay will order the SSD tonight. Want to order everything tonight so will get 2x 1TB Blues from elsewhere.

Thanks guys :)
