The labour Leader thread...

So would consider your political beliefs to be centre centre/left mainstream then?

If you take a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being Hitler and 1 being Trotsky, you would probably find the current Tory party at around 6.5, with Labour under Blair being about the same. Miliband's Labour would have been a little more to the left, let's say a 5.5, but still to the right of centre.

UK politics, and certainly the press, is almost all right of centre.

Corbyn is no more than about a 4 on the scale.

It's also worth noting that even Thatcher was more left wing than both New Labour & the current Conservatives.

There has been a 'creep to the right' of the centre ground for the last 20 years, making anything actually to the left seem 'extreme', when in reality it's no more extreme than many successful capitalist economies.

I noticed that you didn't engage in the points i raised
You didn't raise any points of merit.

Disregarding your glib and flippant insult. I think discussing the choice of a hard left leader for the Labour party making them unelectable which has a proven historic track record is a fundamental core of the subject here.

Corbyn is not hard left lol. He's not even hard socialist, just a traditional social democrat.

The media slur against him his hilarious and show how worried the opposition is.

The repetitive answer of "Hard left lol" doesn't make it any less true that in the modern age he is regarded as hard left

I gather that no one who's center right is in the bit least worried, we're all just rubbernecking at the car crash of Labour is going through at the moment with mild amusement.

Worried? Please! I'm practically begging you to go ahead and vote for him! you're doing the country a favor by keeping Labour out of power for a decade :)

seems to me the guys got principles and is a straight talker - that's why people are flocking to him given the alternatives.

Doesn't mean I agree with anything he says though but good luck to him if he wins. He might be a breath of fresh air in what we see as a politician but on policy I don't think he will gain enough support to actually win an election or even come close. Middle England will do what they did in the last election and protect the current situation

I know amigafan won't like it but Corbyn is fast becoming the left wing equivalent of Nigel Farage in terms of working class appeal. And tbh looking at the election results it's needed and with Corbyn at the helm I wonder if more old fashioned/traditional leftist policies will be enough to turn Scotland red again and stop the rot in the north of England.

Where exactly is it that you stand, socialist workers party, something more extreme or just champagne socialist?
Define champagne socialist in this context or is this just a phrase you are parroting from your daily mail ilk?. Because if you think a person has to be poor to support left wing ideological views then I guess you also believe only the rich can support right wing views yes?.

This is exactly my thought too. People are bored of polished politicians, all from the same school, with the same pals, groomed from the start under the same system (both Labour and Conservative here). While he's been an MP for 30 years he seems "fresh" and I think that makes a difference.

That said all I can think when thinking about him is the High Sparrow fro Game of Thrones, along with the myriad of other leaders that are "men of the people", until they get in to power and then go crazy. There's just something about him...:o:p

Still doesn't get that he's an irrelevance now.

He isn't, he is a divisive figure, who refuses to admit his previous mistakes (listening to the lies of a Baptist), which capturing millions for personal wealth, while the taxpayer continues to fund his trips round the world with a security team.

Often Blair speaking on a topic is enough to shift the balance. In the opposite way to which he speaks. For that alone, he remains relevant.

Blair is toxic. Him supporting a person has the same stigma as being represented by Max Clifford.

Up until recently I did used to be a member of the SWP, then I joined the Green Party. Now I've joined Labour to vote for Corbyn.

Why would I not like it? What's wrong with appealing to the working class? Sorry, but I think I've missed the point you're ham fistedly trying to make.
