Right guys I'm 5 years away from semi retirement and need some ideas for some sort of cottage industry from my garage . We love where we live and have zero plans to move but I have always wanted to work from home , flexi hours ect.

Now the garage is huge , 42 ft x 25ft and 10ft high with loft space . We don't keep cars in it I don't want to rent the space or turn it into brothel or anything like that but I would love is to be able to make a few hundred pounds a week from it . I also don't want every Tom dick n Harry coming round all day long .

I don't mind buying light machinery and can turn my hand to most things .

Your suggestions please

I guess if it is just something to make you a bit of money then perhaps buy an established business and move it to your garage.

There are websites out there - the sort that advertise franchises etc.. some people set up businesses and decided to quit or retire and sell up. would probably require a bit of due diligence - checking how long they've been trading and that they genuinely are profitable.

I do like how you say 'make a few hundred pounds a week' as if it's nothing - that's a full time salary for quite a lot of people and it doesn't sound like you want to put much effort into it.

I personally think you're being un-realistic. You don't want to rent it out, which is the main thing I can think of, though I'd personally convert it to a flat/bedsit or such like and make an income that way.
