What's on your desk? (A painting/modelling WIP thread)

I cleaned those wookies up last night (Gaarkhans smeared lipstick) and decided to just use wash for the eyes. Made a very quick start to Jyn Odan, another character from FFG Imperial Assault who is a smuggler with a bright orange jacket which is proving fun to paint.

So far I've painted all the Imperial forces from the core set, Chewie and Gaarkhan.

Other than that I've not painted anything else before. However Sorastro has a YouTube painting tutorial for Imperial Assault and that's what convinced me to start painting.

I'm amazed with washes. I can't believe how easy they are to add shadows to the miniatures and make the details pop. I thought those crevices were all painted by hand by painters with a really steady hand!

I'll end this post with the last figures I done before Chewie and Gaarkhan.

As you can see I need to work on cleaning up mold lines. The plastic FFG uses is softer than what Games Workshop use, at least basing it on my Space Hulk minis. As such the mold line remover tool makes more of a mess than it cleans up. I plan to buy myself a good scalpel or steal some disposable ones from work to clean up future mold lines.

Edit:
I also forgot to say but damn Jonesiani. The is some amazing paint work!

ill have to get some pictures up but i have just primed all the marines and bases from Sedition Wars and im slowly working through Space Hulk.

i think im going to prime the infected from Sedition wars then put it on the back burner until i have finished Space Hulk as i still havent started the Genestealers.

ill get some WIP shots next time i have them out.

excellent work on IA btw, thats currently second on my to get list after Legendary but it may get bumped up if i finish my current paintint projects sooner and need somthing new to paint.

Done another Imperial Assault figure last night.

Jyn Odan.

This time I decided not to even bother attempting the eyes as I would just have made a big mess again.

@ GTanny

You'll need to upload Space Hulk. That's third on my list. Once I'm done learning with Imperial Assault I plan to do Battlelore to play with colours and finally Space Hulk when I'm a little more confident with my brushwork.

I did a few more bits last night and took some pics before I started, I'm not 100% happy with them but as my first big project on a GW set I'm happy.

There is a few bits I would do differently if I started again but no plans for that in the foreseeable future.

Very early stages. I'm playing in a 30K tournament in Cardiff next weekend so I really need to get cracking!

What an amazing model though. The pose, the detail... everything is just incredible.

Would you mind sharing what green you've used? Been trying to find a green I'd be happy with for my Sallies and yours is spot on.

I've been using Vallejo's Game Air paints.

Black undercoat -> Dark Angel base -> Sick Green highlight -> very light Light Livery Green highlight.

Here's the finished model taking on some Terminators:

Great, thanks for getting back to me.

When you say Dark Angels Green do you mean the new Caliban Green?
Is the sick Green and livery green by Valejo?

Army is looking great!

Cheers. :)

The colour I used was a Vallejo colour. The Vallejo game range is supposed to be almost a colour match for GW's paints.

Dark Green = Dark Angels Green = Caliban Green
Sick Green = Snot Green = Warpstone Glow

Light Livery Green doesn't have a GW equivalent any more (it's equivalent to the old Bilious Green). It's an almost fluorescent green/yellow.

Currently on my desk (living room table) are......

I've just finished basing them. I used a mix of polyfilla and sand, then dry brushed to effect.

Only really ever painted GW products, but have recently got a little fed up with extortionate prices and various other factors, so have jumped into doing a bit of bolt action!

28mm scale, but not 28mm heroic like 40k is I believe, they are much smaller than IG unfortunately or they would be great for that purpose.
