Skoda

Quick update regarding the above... Skoda have just confirmed that the chain belt has stretched and now the car needs a new engine... Unbelievable.

The car's only done 47k and I'm waiting to hear back about whether the warranty covers all the costs. If they come back and ask for any sort of contribution, I'm tempted to put in a complaint and ask for a refund.

Since buying it in February, I've had numerous problems with it and I personally don't feel it's met the 'Approved Skoda' standard, so will see what happens. I guess if the warranty is covering all the costs, then great i've got a car with a new engine, but otherwise i'm not sure whether to keep it or not and ask for the refund?

If it is approved used and you bought it in february then i wouldnt worry, the warranty will cover all the costs.

I doubt you will have much luck asking/demanding for a refund if they want to fix it/put a new engine in it.

Has anybody had a poke around the new Superb?

It's not officially launched for a couple more weeks but I've read some dealers have the odd demo car.

I'm considering leasing the Estate in SE Business trim as there are some reasonable deals on offer at the moment, have yet to see one in the flesh.

Initial reviews are promising.

Had a brief look at one at a car show as a local dealer had one. This was the hatch but I was very impressed with it. In fact the Superb, Octavia and Rapid (considering the price) were all very impressive compared to the equivalents from the other brands that were there.

I'm kind of sad to see the V6 disappear from the Superb line and be replaced with the 4 pot that's found in the Golf R for this new model. I know the 4 pot is more powerful, better economy, more frugal, yada yada yada. But then it'll never sound like this;

They've taken the Golf R 4 pot and detuned it for the new Superb. I wish they'd taken the 5 cylinder from the RS3 or TTRS and used that instead. Unless they have some new V6 engine in the works. The top of the line, top engined Superb deserves more than a 4 pot.

I'd love to see them make a Superb VRS. The standard car handled pretty well for its size so would presumably sharpen up quite well. There's bound to be an engine in the VAG group that would suit it - the V6 from the Audi S4 would be awesome :)

But then it would be a cut price S4 and VW would never allow it.
VW hold Skoda on a tight leash - they see every Skoda sale as a lost VW sale.
So they like to hold things back. So there will be little options that the Skoda cannot have, they will leave the factory with effectively the same parts, but be under-tuned.

The only time I've ever seen Skoda have the upper hand over VW was when the Up/Citigo/MII were released.
You couldn't get either the Up or MII anywhere. Demo cars, but nothing available to go and waits of 3 months. Skoda however had the Citigo ready to roll, stock available and a larger range of engines/equipment.
How VW let that sneak past I'll never know - can only assume someone lost a job over it :)

A Skoda dealer about 1/2 hour away have a couple of the new Superb Hatch & Estates so will try to check them out this week and report back.

Simpsons Skoda have it on 2 year lease for £1490 deposit and then £179 per month. That's SE Business spec on Hatch or Estate with 10k per year. 7.2p per mile over that, not unreasonable.

Total cost to do 25k would be £5967.00.

I've found it a few quid cheaper on some of the broker sites but <£100 difference. I say Simpsons as found their site easiest to navigate and read if you're doing research.

The zero-hassle arrangement of the lease is appealing to me at the moment. Didn't think I'd ever consider one!

I'm the same, been looking at the new VRS offers (and the Yeti ones).

I like the idea of a new car on lease, warranty etc but my car use is very erratic. I don't commute but still seem to do over 10k miles a year. Some weeks I'll do 10, others i'll do 500.

I go from looking at second hand mk2 VRS estates to brand new ones.
