Absolutely hate the "people" in the area I live

Chavs are the worst, just revel in the fact that your life if probably a million times better than theres.

And dilute our Professional Armed Forces with the above mentioned scum?

No ta.

Yea this, I wouldn't want to fight alongside those retards, they can't even be bothered to get a normal job let alone one where they get shouted at.

Sadly there will never be anything to deter these type of scum; police, authority, respect, shame, guilt, nothing. Wearing a visible camera as suggested was my first thoughts too but I would imagine that would serve no other purpose than to anger them further and get yourself stabbed. Life and health is precious, although in your shoes I would want to get justice and/or challenge their behaviour, the best outcome (I am sad to say) is to avoid the area where possible and look into moving. The upheaval and cost of moving would be better than the stress on your health every time you walk your dog :(

I feel for you man, the area I live in now is lovely, my missus complains that it's not that developed (in terms of infrastructure eg shops), and the kids are noisy out the front. Honestly though when I think about some of the areas I frequented growing up it's paradise in comparison.

We had areas in my old town (not anywhere near as bad now) where you just didn't go after dark. Sad really.

Can happen anywhere. Was assaulted a few times when I was a teenager so I started carrying a 6-cell Maglite around with me. Seemed to do the trick.

Ever lived in a town/city with barracks? Ever been on the **** with service men/women? A lot of them were or still are reprobates.

Yes grew up in the forces, Yes work with the forces and drink with them regularily. Yes some of them still retain their previous demeanor whilst drunk.

However the difference between getting all chav scum into uniform and the amount of chav scum who volunteer for service is hugley different isn't it.

I'd rather see a regiment with some bad apples than a regiment full of bad apples.

Be like a rocky promontory against which the restless surf continually pounds; it stands fast while the churning sea is lulled to sleep at its feet. I hear you say, "How unlucky that this should happen to me!" Not at all! Say instead, "I am not broken by what has happened and am not afraid of what is about to happen."

I feel much safer walking around somewhere like Berlin at night than I do any number of small towns here, let alone some of the cities!
There's something very wrong with a lot of places in the UK.

The post made about supporting wars is pretty ignorant to be honest... But anyhow!

My time in the RAF has done me no harm. I've had plenty of days when i've thought "**** this, i'm out." Though i've never had the bottle to quit.

The forces teach you a plethora of skills. Life skills, things that aren't really visible in this modern era of schooling. Respect for authority, team work, attention to detail , integrity , pushing yourself to your limits to name but a few. Even the basics of personal administration!

You can go your whole career without going on operations. Though in my time myself and other friends have done plenty of things that "help our fellow man".

Driving lorries during strikes, prison guards during strikes , helping relief efforts for areas stricken with floods. Assisting when the fire service has gone on strike, assisting when ambulance services went on strike. Helping contain grass fires. Let's not forget when our glorious friends; the decision makers at G4S couldn't secure the London Olympics.

In addition to that the forces are encouraged to engage in charity work and engage with the local community.

Back to the main point however, if nowadays the RAF ( i use this as a prime example) can turn a average civilian into an Airman over the course of 10 weeks. I can't imagine it being too difficult if national service was adopted to turn a scumbag into a respectable citizen over the course 16 weeks. Food for thought.

The obvious answer is to maintain the two as separate branches. National Service personnel would be regarded as a reserve force only, but they can be used in disaster relief etc.

Forgive my apparent ignorance, but what you're talking about is the TA right ? Part timers who like guns ? ;)

My apologies for going slightly off topic.

I'm 24, spent my teen years growing up in Merthyr Tydfil, South Wales.

Again, another area with plenty of un-desireable youths. Though on the other hand i have no doubt that plenty of the people i went to school with achieve some amazing things. Some already have! We live in a time where people think they can do whatever the **** they want.

I joined the RAF at 16 so have been hammered with discipline since that age. I was watching "bad lads army" the other day. These kids thinking they're harder than a coffin nail end up crying after a few hours of being shouted at. Really do think this country needs to adopt a national service kind of approach.

I don't agree with National service, hhowever we could just swap a load of chavs for migrants, and send some more chavs to be used as target practice by ISIS or the Taliban :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D
