Another Job Centre Plus, sanctioning rant!

You've clearly not dealt with the job centre any time recently.

No I haven't. But if it is so well know that the job centre is looking for any tiny excuse to stop paying you then you move heaven and earth to be there for 10 minutes once a fortnight.

When I turned 16 my dad told me it was about time I worked. He said not to come home until I found a job. I spent all day out walking around handing out CVs and was unsuccessful at getting a job... however I was allowed home because I had secured 4 interviews over the coming week. 1 offered me a job.

10 years ago. Since then I haven't been unemployed for longer than 2 weeks, which was once.

Am I lucky? Maybe. But we make our own luck.

Got your message chap, will sort it out when I get home. I'll also reply with my number, just give me a shout if you need anyone to chat to/vent to.

If someone is setting up a open account for donations, let me know, I'll stick the cash in there instead to keep it all central.

Thanks

Yes, we've established that in another thread.

The OP has paid his NI via previous jobs, he should get the JSA - he shouldn't have to tart selling stuff to feed himself and pay for 'leccy.

Did you actually read the original post before applying scathing comments though? He did say multiple times he has attended the meeting he thought was rescheduled

Selling a rig with a £300 gfx card and an SSD? Hardly desperate. If he was trying to flog his Nokia 3310 I might agree...

I was referring to a computer, not specifically the one the OP has...

Sorry then we'll have to disagree mate, if it was a choice between putting food an the table for my family and having a PC then it's an absolute no brainer!

So if you follow that logic he'll also need broadband, why not throw in HD TV and the sports pack while you're about it. Don't forget the 4K TV to watch it all on, can't go without the 21C essentials. God forbid if they're a smoker and you asked if they should also cut down on ciggies, that's their human right!!!

The "If you need to feed the kids" / "put food on the table" argument is odd because that is what the welfare system should be doing - it is a safety net.

Some form of broadband is pretty much essential, many services including Council ones are going online. Libraries are closing so that might not be an option for everybody. Can't see an issue with welfare being able to cover broadband, after all it doesn't cost that much for basic broadband.

Maybe not to you, but loads of people would kill for a PC at home... I know a couple. It's not even just the PC it's the associated costs like broadband. He then has one with a gtx 970... hardly your standard home pc.

I was referring to a computer in general but let's just say somebody has a good computer. Should they be expected to sell it just to eat? The OP might well have a nice computer, purchased when he wasn't suffering hard times, so for that he must have to sell it (probably for a fraction of what they could get)?

If you read all my posts in this thread you would see I had. He missed two appointments over all. The 2nd one appears to be a mix up. First one is up for debate.

While I feel for him, he isn't doing himself any favours as others have pointed out.

Quite raging on an Internet forum and go start throwing your CV about so you don't have to deal with 'incompetent' JSA workers.

Government already puts a roof over your head and puts food on the table now you think it should supply your internet? Why not throw in a car to? And a holiday once a year.

Maybe I was brought up differently but I would sell my luxuries before accepting kind gestures of charity from people...

Sure, it's a safety net with a "sanction" system that it seems you mess with at your peril. Surely given that the OP has already had issues common sense would dictate that he would ensure that in the future he would he gave them no "excuse" to stop his benefit.

Don't agree on the broadband thing, there a plenty of places you can use a PC for free without burdening the state with providing the jobless with free broadband and PCs as well.

Doesn't count for much but you gave my sympathy when it comes to the Jobcentre. I'd like to help but have resigned due to moving house and I'm not sure when I'll be working again (I'm in the more fortunate position of having a partner that can support me)

I was sanctioned for refusing a job offer (had to use public transport which didn't start until an hour into the shift and would then take a hour to get there).

I've never tried to rely on them as I've found them useless in the past. Found my last few jobs myself after I ignored their advice on my CV. Unfortunately they are a necessary evil it seems.

You have stipulated limited working hours. You may have to relax that to find work and be free of those hard working drones that can cause issues like this.

Why doesn't he put his CV on here, plenty of people can help him in that respect. Getting handouts from a forum for what appears to be not even the first time, wow.

Just to stress I am actually applying for jobs daily, the issues I face are when you have to declare mental health conditions which I have you don't tend to hear back from very many people. Coupled with the fact that I have a final court order in regards to seeing my kids which prevents me from working weekends, nights and would require me to have an early dart on two Fridays a month so I can collect my kids from school and a late start two mondays a month because I've got to take them to school and with requiring 50% of all their school holidays off because my ex refuses to negotiate holidays etc they've had to be set in stone and I'm not exactly free as a bird.

Yet I do make the effort to search daily as I don't want to be on benefits!

Basic internet maybe its becoming close to essential in modern life (some of my older colleagues really struggle as they refuse to have it at home) especially to keep an edge in job searching and in some places not so easy to find freely available public pc/internet access (or without incurring travel costs, etc. that would make it largely a pointless exercise).

As for the people mentioning internet don't sky talktalk ect offer free 17mb internet when u take line rental * might be worth looking at lowering/changing the package *

After paying a lot of NI over my 21 year working life I would expect JSA to cover any transitional periods between jobs - and I wouldn't expect to have to be a perming monkey to get it. If I had to start selling basic household items to make ends meet then I'd be pretty *******. It's not like you can opt out of paying NI and make your own arrangements.

The monkeys are quick enough to take the money off you but they're ***** about paying out.

You will be fine. Just make sure you make your fortnightly appointment all the time.
