Hi .. venting frustration here

So last week I saw this on autotrader at £8555

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201508156080580?radius=30&page=1&price-to=9500&model=mazda6&quicksearch=true&postcode=b604jt&price-from=8500&search-target=usedcars&sort=default&channel=cars&onesearchad=used%2Cnearlynew%2Cnew&make=mazda&logcode=p

I went to view it on Tuesday night and agreed to buy the car for the asking price as I thought it was a fair price. Left a £300 deposit and agreed with the seller that I would want an inspection done on the car.

So wednesday, arranged the inspection which cost me £180. After 3pm today that was non refundable, the inspection is booked for tomorrow.

So tonight I get a txt from the seller , stating that a local garage has offered him £8850 and he made a mistake with the sale price. He says I can have the car now for £9000, or he'll return my deposit..

How infuriating that he left it this late to decide this. I'll lose my £180 for the inspection through no fault of my own.. I realise there is little I can do about that.

I'm probably going to decline his offer after the inspection tomorrow. .. don't like dealing with people that mess me about.

Thoughts appreciated..

Thanks

Tell him you want the cost of the inspection covered too. Actually saw something very similar to this on some TV show a while back and the 'judge' agreed with the buyer.

Tell him to refund your money, tell him you've cancelled the RAC stuff - don't cancel it and provide them with his number as a contact.

I'd be tempted to fire his car up on Gumtree or the likes for about £5k and stick his number on there too

By all means ask for the inspection cost too, but you have no realistic means of actually pursuing it

I fully intend to let the inspection happen in the hope it will inconvenience him a little !

Was £8555 a fair price in your opinion?

Yes I got a receipt for the deposit but I don't have it with me at the moment.. I think it only mentioned the date, reg and deposit amount but not the agreed sale price..

To be honest its not going to make much difference no matter what you have in the way of paperwork.

You can threaten small claims and even go for it if you wish but ultimately they can't do anything about a car that's already gone. Best case they make the guy five you the small claims fee and inspection cost....after wasting about 6 months of your time to get there.

I'd just make his life as difficult as I possibly could

Unfortunately i have no proof of the purchase price we agreed but i do have txts from him apologising profusely etc etc.. i not worried about losing out on the car, another one will come along, its the principal of the thing and being out of pocket through no fault of my own.. I'm going to phone him , and request my deposit back + the inspection fee.. i doubt he'll pay the £180 fee but it but can't hurt to ask

I recently bought a 10 reg 2.5 petrol which is quite rare with 28k on the clock for 9k so I would say 8.5k is fair for that but 9k is taking the **** especially if a price was agreed.

There's no way a garage offered him 8850 for that! He's just trying it on. Get your deposit back and tell him u want at least half your inspection money back or your taking him to court.

Done - deposit being returned he wouldn't pay back the £180 or even make a contribution towards it.

what a utter <insert expletive>

Is there no way the inspection people can refund you? Seems a bit unreasonable, surely they can refund like half or something.

I doubt he is going to sell that for 9k, these things depreciate fairly bad, not worth 9k.

Complete and utter messers at least you got your deposit back.
Try a chargeback on your credit card for the inspection.

Then poop! yeh you know the rest.

Good luck pal
