Which 980ti?

Hoping to get some help from people with this card - which 980 Ti shall I get?

I'm stuck between the Asus Strix, the MSI 6g or the Gigabyte G1 (I hear this one suffers from coil whine - i want it as quiet as possible with great cooling and overclocking potential)

Getting my zotac amp! replaced as it was pretty terrible for me.

Any help would be appreciated, thank you!

I'd personally say the MSI 6G.

Mine overclocks really well and can only hear the fans when they're above 80%. Temperatures are normally below 65C depending on the ambient temp of the room.

Ah that sounds good - my Zotac Amp! was getting to 80C with no overclock with fans @80% on an early english morning with all windows open (with a custom profile temps would almost reach 90C at 1080p...) sounded like a hoover.

MSI was my first choice - will likely go with that.

What's their warranty like?

If you really want these attributes at any cost I would say the EVGA 980Ti Hybrid is the one, have to be quick though, 4 in stock and they will be gone soon and take ages to get back in stock. If you are not a fan of AIO cooling, I can say the MSI 6G is certainly quiet but there is less cooling headroom than the G1, which can go louder and have more headroom (MSI max 2200rpm G1 max 4000+rpm). Coil whine can really be down to luck, but I have also seen the most reports of problems on the G1 so I would be careful, not all retailers will accept RMAs for coil whine now.

What's their warranty like?

Recently a user reported a turnaround of 25 days from MSI so I would imagine 30 days should be the max. I have seen a post on here about Gigabyte asking for a fee to RMA the product, which sounds a bit strange but can't find the link for it. Many reports of Asus having less than ideal service, but that could just be a bad reputation.

I'll put in a good word for Palit's Super Jetstream model. If it's silence you want, it certainly delivers. It's probably the quietest card I've ever owned, which is pretty amazing considering the demands of such a powerful chip and the fact that I'm yet to see it go over 72 degrees under benchmark load.

No idea about how it holds up in terms of overclocking on average compared to other models. Mine boosted to 1379 out of the box and I've only nudged it up to 1429 so far. I guess it's mostly silicon lottery anyway.

I'm confused how my amp! seemed so damn loud when on the chart it comes before the MSI, GB and Asus card - was mine just badly made? (Mine wasnt the extreme, but on some reviews it states 41 DbA under load... )

Choices so far are MSI and Palit - anyone else have these cards that could pitch in? thanks.

Case airflow? If your case does not vent air quick enough the case will fill up with all that warm air and just suffocate the GPU making it run hot as it will just be blowing warm air on the GPU. If not that them perhaps not enough cool air on inflow? Airflow can have a massive impact if not set up properly. If your airflow is okay then perhaps some how the cooler was not seated on the GPU properly so its not making proper contact or the thermal paste is not applied properly.

The Amp is supposed to be quite good! At Least better than the reference cooler and your getting more than reference temps!

Zotac Amp! Extreme here, silent fan operation, overclocks well, 1518 on the core and 8020 for the RAM never seen temps above 61oC when gaming.
Best 980Ti out there! 5 year warranty also! Fantastic.

I have 6 case fans - two intake at front - One 140mm on the case side pointing directly at the GPU and one at the bottom of my case intaking to the GPU then the rest exhaust.

My 980 beforehand only got to 70 on load - also the zotac was idling @ 55-60 (even with the fans @20%)
