The labour Leader thread...

I can't see the labour party splitting, the labour party brand name is to important and garuantees votes across the major cities in north of England. Anyone who left nd formed a new party would lose their seat to the next Labour candidate. If the socialist wing of that party could lay dormant for decades then the social democrats should now do the same.

Erm, yeah, that was what i was getting at :cool

And the majority of people are worse off, and will be after the next 5 years too, so that sort of debunks your assertion that "we're all better off with a centre right government"

But I guess you're better off, so that's all that matters

Worse off compared to what? Absolutely? Relatively? Relative to what?
..and in the next 5 years as well...I don't think many people are good at forecasting that far in the future

If people disagree with you or propogate views that you don't hold, don't tar them with the selfish brush - all too reminiscent of endless Facebook postings after the election with left leaning folks implying their higher moral worth, and denigrating anyone that didn't vote labour

lol seen similar outbursts from hardcore labour supporters I'm friends with or friends of friends on facebook - while neither would vote for Corbyn (one was intending on voting for Cooper) there are reasons why they could be identified as such.

What a sham.

I was being a little satirical there.

TBH I'm not really a committed Corbyn supporter. I'm not sure he can win an election. I'm not sure I agree with his policy ideas (though they are interesting). What I do see there is an opportunity for Labour to finally move on from Blair and Brown. With Jeremy Corbyn in charge, Labour's perceived record on the economy might not dominate the 2020 election - how can you blame a guy who voted against deregulation and other policies that lead up to the 2008 crash? With Burnham, Kendall or Cooper in charge, 2020 will be much like 2015 and 2010.

If it wasn't for Burnham's rhetoric about 'thousands of Tory infiltrators' and talk of a legal challenge, if it wasn't for Mandelson's rumoured scheming, I don't think I'd be bothered about losing my vote. I'm absolutely not a committed supporter of the Labour Party. Sadly, the whole situation stinks of an attempt to subvert the democratic process by removing as many as possible of those who aren't going to vote the 'right' way.

'@lizforleader zionist' does appear in my autocomplete. Maybe Louise clicked on it and then the X appeared?

https://youtu.be/UlyLCmF2FF8

How quite a few high profile labour members have supported her is anyone's guess.

She is a woman (and the most attractive one in the running). The fusty old dodderers would have been having palpitations just by being within 3 feet of her nevermind the opportunity to perv over her in the cabinet :)

On a more serious note - perhaps it was felt she was the lesser of some of the evils on offer? The problem with the Labour Party is it has nobody of correct calibre to step into the role, and certainly nobody who can win an election. A lack of viable options is not really an informed choice, afterall.

They run the very real risk of going the same way as the Lib Dems, and I think a large part of that is because Labour is less relevant these days, not least because they are basically Torie Light. It seems to me that many people in Britain are naturally leaning more towards conservatism in general and the rest are just in a state of perpetual apathy because the parties are all basically the same. In the main they would be right. The world will keep turning and life goes on pretty much the same manner whether the PM wears a red tie, or a blue one or a yellow one.

It doesn't appear on mine. "@lizforleader louise" does though...

Interesting, zionist has disappeared from mine as well now along with a few other innocuous ones that were there and now I just see '@lizforleader louise'. But the fact it was definitely there when I checked means if I had clicked on it an 'x' would have appeared on any future screenshot I may have taken so she might have been right on all of them. I'm not a follower of Mensch or anything, but it was definitely there when I posted so maybe Twitter are removing things like nazi, zionist etc. after she highlighted it.

It probably was there TBH. Doesn't take a lot of digging to tie the terms 'Liz Kendall' and 'Zionist' together. It seems some people weren't very impressed by her views on the Israel/Palestine problem.

There hasn't been effective opposition for the last 5 years and this country hasn't fallen apart. I wish people stop being so dramatic and realise that we're all better off with a centre right government.

And you expect the Tories to stay "centre right" (a meaningless phrase since the centre ground itself has been shifting to the right for the last 30+ years) without anyone to effectively oppose them?

it always seemed strange that thatcher gets stick for the Falklands (now, not then) - what exactly was she supposed to do?? a foreign power invaded a british territory - to do anything other than defend them would be a disaster.

Not sure how she could get stick for anything regarding the Falklands, Her actions were spot on, I shudder to think if any prime minister of the last 20 years would have had the spine to do the same.

Why would they move from their current position? It's popular. If Corbyn becomes Labour leader then the status quo is the Tories best chance of election success. To move further right would simply make a Corbyn government more tempting to more people.

xD haha pwned

Not really, at least one of those autocompletes worked when I checked earlier and it was soon removed, all it means is that she clicked on them to see who was tweeting it. I'm not a fan of hers at all, but it's not rocket science to realise how Twitter works, you click on something and you've 'searched' for it and an 'x' appears.
