Where was the designated area?

I didn't think this went on over the roads or land that could be residential or populated. It was mentioned earlier in the thread that the manoeuvre wasn't planned which was a surprise as I thought these events were very staged and planned out, including where they took place in the sky.

It seems from the following exclusion zone that they had quite a bit of space over land but obviously some of that is a safety buffer zone and for circling around to come back to land.

I would assume the pilot had big problems which werent obvious to anyone except him. Hope he recovers

Isn't the exclusion zone for non participating aircraft? Ie no other planes should fly there under the set altitude but it doesn't stop display planes going outside this area?

Looking on Google maps the crash was just outside the airport so possibly within the shows boundary for manoeuvres , then again the pilot could have started a the manouvre within his boundary then exceeded it after losing control

No idea of the manoeuvre was unplanned, just speculation isn't it?

2 cyclists who were doing nothing but waiting for the lights to turn green , the people in the wedding card , the people in the silver corsa . none of which were actively involved in the airshow , but they died when a speeding chunk of metal hit them.

its nothing like the movies - its a thud then a bang then the heat hits you

There's dash cam footage on ******** from further back in the queue, can't link cause of swearies. I nearly went today as the Vulcan was there, and I'm so glad I didn't as possibly witnessing that would have been horrendous :(

RIP.

Just seen footage from a dashcam some distance away , the jet looks to be moving at some speed whilst descending and a little wobble just before it hits , different perspective to the one shown on the news

Same here. I only didn't go because I had a hangover. I'd planned on standing just north of that crossroads.

I was in the garden watching the Vulcan fly over when my wife came out with the news. Truly shocking.

Accident do happen also there are lots of planes f!ying over our heads.. Too many and can happen if accident then hit road or houses... Terrible one on a27.. Like one plane left JFK then crashed into the houses in 2001.. Too many planes over the sky.. You can see on flightrader24..

You can't have an airshow without it going over something, here, I've marked on the NAATS map the accident site :(

And this shows just how far from the runway it was, not far, at all.

Poor souls :(

We can all guess what went wrong but we will soon know what actually happened. Ok, it make take some time but for now, lets remember the people who lost their lives today.

I feel sorry for all the victims but especially i hope to god there wasn't a young couple on their wedding day in that car :(:( Stories of people dying on their wedding day depresses me in particular

I thought that too but it was on its way to collect the bride by all accounts.
