Seven dead after Hawker Hunter hits cars

Just seen one of the victims was called Matt Jones. Saw a Tweet from his sister last night asking if anyone had heard from him because they couldn't contact him :(

There are two other people still missing according to the local Facebook groups. One of which was in the same car as Matt Jones.

Today's society of filming everything (In relation to the aftermath video) instead of trying to help those that might still be alive sickens me .

R.I.P to all those that lost their lives.

short of running into a ball of fire and becoming additional casualties is there much they could have done?

I was there at the airshow on the side of runway and saw it as it happened!:(

He was on the last leg of completing a loop sequence.

It was a really warm day with a bit of wind blowing towards the aircraft, and it wouldn't surprise me if this cause some issues.

Possibly a fuel leak judging by those photos. Only a possibility though.

Could cause some form of imbalance but I'm unsure on when that photo was taken? The pilot should have realised however I'm not to clued up on how sophisticated the plane is.

I had a quick looksy at some of my pictures of the plane, but don't see any indications of a leak from one of the tanks.

Edit!!

Wait I did once I upped the contrast!!

Its a plume of some sort.

It seems to be happening on the bottom part of roll.

yet it's extremely valuable to the people who come in and work out what happened

are you guys sure it's a leak? have you been to an airshow etc?

contails form around parts of the planes as they force the air over the wings etc as the planes surfaces cut through the dense air

you see it on f1 cars too

Some of the ones from the EF are from smoke generators too,but the plume only appears on one tank, which is a bit suspect, and its very faint. It will be interesting to see what the accident report says.

Yeah does look to be consistently from the right wing tank. At the same time the explosion suggests there wasn't necessarily a lack of fuel on board.

Edit: Top photo in the link above also shows the vapour stream from the right wing.

if it were slowly rolling to one side or turning it would be faint and only in one area

maybe the guy lost control because something failed or got stuck and the plane kept trying to pull in one direction.

it could be almost anything at this point

Not an expert, but interested, would a fuel leak prevent it from carrying out the manoeuvre? Obviously if it ran out of fuel it would. Or does a leak in one tank mess up the pressure, etc, leading to a drop in performance?

fuel leak probably wouldn't make a difference the the manoeuvre as long as the engine is getting fuel pumped still I'd imagine and he'd get a pressure warning light?

Thats a massive fuel leak but I reckon it shows even a small one would be far more visible than a contrail/vortice on a wing tip etc is

Would they even have fuel in the external tanks for an air show? (not sure how they'd be configured but capable of various internal/external fuel storage) can you dump fuel from them as well as jettison them entirely? could be he knew he was in trouble and trying to get rid of fuel - though in that case I'd assume he'd dump the tank unless he thought it had too high a risk in a populated area.

They are also known to change course entirely due to the force/weight changes on (pilot) ejection which could have made putting it down somewhere with less risk of collateral very tricky.

what happened there? looks like its leaking from every bolt in the spar?
