Wife collected me from Lichfield station in her MX5. Heading home and about 4 miles from my door we come around a left hand bend onto a long straight to be confronted with an old S Type Jag at well above 100mph on our side of the road, headlights on, overtaking a van. The gap I still have no idea how he got back in but my wife stopped the car and the distance between her front offside wing and the van coming the otherway was JUST enough space for the Jag to fit. I think the closest one I have had in years, luck was with us tonight, if it hadn't been I suspect we would have both have been killed this night.

The **** flashed us too, I can't tell you how angry I am.

Jheez.
What a plonker! Glad you're ok, any chance of ID'ing the car? This is where dashcams could have helped!

This is where dashcam footage would have been useful.
Are people going to say this after every incident on the road now?
I highly doubt a dashcam would've been able to read the number plate of a fast-approaching S-Type with its headlights (and main beams!) on at night.

Glad to hear you and your wife are OK Housey!

It was daylight but frankly not sure what a dash cam could have added other than a scary video of what could have happened. It was VERY close to a head on of probably 150mph combined speed as my wife was doing circa 50mph at the time. S type Jag v MX5 is not going to end well for the Mazda I fear.

yesterday I was overtaken on a hump back bridge that narrows abit, in a 30mph zone, both my wife and I were speechless

20 yards later its a 60mph zone and this idiot then proceeds to go 45

beggars belief

Wouldn't that be like a nasty crash at 50mph for you and your wife? All actions having an equal and opposite reaction (not combined) according to Newton?

Close call, thankfully neither of you were hurt apart from the shock.

Probably **** his or her pants

Perhaps it would be like a 75mph crash, the 150mph speed shared between both vehicles? Or perhaps different vehicle mass has a factor?

Dunno, it would be interesting to find out as I'm sure that two vehicles of similar size share the impact force pretty much 50/50 if they both collide at the same speed. For instance, 50mph per car, 100mph combined speed, roughly 50/50 share of total impact force = impact is basically like a 50mph crash into solid object.

Maybe? :confused::D

Not sure about all the technicalities being discussed but sounds like good luck was on your side tonight Housey, no wonder you are angry as hell though, what a dumb move by that Jag driver.

For anyone who knows the area it was the B5013 coming from Rugeley towards Abbots Bromley, at Hamley Heath. It is a bit of an accident black spot as there is a section of twisty roads with high hedges both sides that gets tight, but we were just coming out of that section to enter a long up hill section towards Abbots Bromley, maybe 3/4 mile long that you can see for pretty much the whole length to be confronted by said car doing a mad overtake just as he was entering the twisty section. He will have had to shed a lot of speed to make that section as he was I would estimate well over a 100mph. I have travelled down that road at pace many times, but I know every little bump and camber like the back of my hand and also know where you need to be careful. It was just the shock of pootling along chatting with the wife, who was driving, to be confronted seemingly 50 yards in front by a fast moving car on our side of the road struggling to get back in to the rapidly diminishing space. My biggest concern was in his attempt to avoid us and get back on his side of the road he was going to clip the van he was overtaking and it would have been like a plan crash with the speed involved.

The standard of driving is just appalling. I wish I could give up driving actually, because the roads seem bloody dangerous these days.
