I currently have an Audi TT in black with 10 spoke silver alloys. I was toying with the idea of getting them powder coated to match the black of the car.

Has anyone here got any experience with this? Does it work well? and does the finish last ok on the road?

Supposedly powdercoating is more durable than painting, although painting can, if done really well, yield a better finish.

Black will look gash, though.

Each to their own, but black on black on certain cars i.e a TT would look nice in my opinion & No i dont have a car with black on black.

It is fine if done properly. Apparently many powdercoaters over bake the wheels which can lead to cracking or breaking of spokes.

Personally I've had many of my wheels done, had track days with them, hit massive holes in the road etc. No issues. :)

Powdercoating is fine, had several of mine done over the years and had no issues.

Black on black = wannabe gangsta and / or chav.

All powder coaters bake the wheels. The ovens normally go up to around 200 deg c . As far as i know the cracking wheels idea is just a myth as ive never heard or seen it happen.

Source I own a powder coating factory that does around 10 sets of wheels a week. Plus much more.

IIRC the issue with powder coated wheels cracking was to do with them being Forged wheels. No idea why or if it was true or not.

I've had my wheels refurbed and powder coated by The Wheel Specialist (Manchester). The finish is great and IMO better than the factory finish. Interesting side effect is that the wheels are much easier to clean than the original finish.

Most powder coat them and then paint over the top as the powder coat finish is a disappointment to most people. I had mine done at The Wheel Specialist Nottingham, and they powdercoated them grey/silver and then painted them silver and then clear coat.

I don't like powder coating as it can flake off in big chunks when damaged, much prefer a decent paint.

As for colour, gun metal looks much better with black than black wheels. Black just looks gash and like already said, loses any detail on the wheels.

Black on black is Astra territory, embrace the bronze age!

If it flakes then it was a **** poor job tbh, not prepped properly and the same would have happened to a similarly poor paint job.

It's funny how everyone says black on black is gash. I roll with black on black and tbh don't like it too much, but in real life everyone off here said they looked good, make your minds up.

Getting mine done on 28th Sept - £149 for all 4.

Just getting silver finish to bring them back to a better condition.

Hopefully will be a good result!
