ebay help

I always take a picture of the serial number before I send electronic items on ebay with username and postage details and video me boxing / wrapping the item, the amount of times people have tried to send me a duff item back with different serial number is at least 6 now

whats to stop you doing this then sending out a broken item with a differnt serial.

when they oipen a dispute/send it back you show ebay the differnt serials?

do they side with you or the buyer?

but can't he seek legal advice (CAB?) and take action if he has evidence he's been shafted, if you don't take serial numbers and such there's nothing you can if/when Ebay shafts you.

There's also a good chance the scammer will bottle it if they know you have proof of what you sent and aren't just going to roll over if/when Ebay side with them.

You'd still have a hard time proving anything

I can borrow my mates xbox and take a photo with my holding it, taking it to the post office and then handing over an xbox box full of stones.

Just because I have a photo of me holding something outside the post office, doesn't mean I actually did it

same thing with serial numbers

If you have indeed been shafted, the only way to get even is to lose your morals for a few days and do a similar thing on ebay yourself.

Who knows, perhaps that's what the scammer has done

ebay told me once they werent interested in my pictures as I could have downloaded them from the internet. Only pics used in the ad could be used as evidence.

Look at it from the other side, maybe they are genuine and it's broken, I'd want a refund if I was the buyer. Or perhaps they are scammers only they know the answer that. eBay will side with the buyers for certain.

Did you spend the money in your PayPal account? I'd call the bank and cancel the card you have on file, no chance of PayPal getting the cash then :) but no chance of using them again either.

I was about to say i have had this before.

Always put a picture of your item with the serial number etc.

I do this mainly with hard drives all the time. It also saved me once witha GTX 480 GPU someone tried to stiff me with.

Maybe you should read the last 50 posts and see what everyone else thinks...

i cba to read this all but my ps4 done the same when i got mine, so sent it back to sony to get it replaced, all i needed was the serial number, took about a week to get new one was even free to post it if you have a printer.

anyway good luck.

If the buyer sends the item back to the OP via tracked shipping, eBay will refund them. It will be an instant refund within a day or so of the item being delivered to the seller.

The seller would then have to appeal the case but don't get your hopes up

You accept the return. You check to see if it is the item you sent and is in the condition you sent it in. Even if it is not you will be forced to refund the buyer anyway.

You can then take them to court if you wish.

I took Ebay to court over an item that worked fine after they refused to let me appeal a wholly unfair decision despite being told beforehand that I could. I even proved the item worked fine and offered proof, but apparently they wouldn't let me appeal because 'you accepted the return', when in fact THEY accepted the return, not me.

Prove the item works, Small Claims, and be done with it.

Edit: Date is in 18 days and the only defense their solicitors could come up with was that the item fell into their Ebay Money Back Guarantee (which it didn't since it was as described and NOT defective).

Paypal have sent me the email.

Dear xxxxxxxxxxxx,

We've been reviewing the buyer claim regarding the below transaction.

Transaction Details

Claim number: PP-xxx-xxx-xxxx-xxx

Buyer's name: xxxxx

Buyer's email: [email protected]

Transaction amount: £260 GBP

Your transaction ID: xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Item name:
Playstation 4 White + Witcher 3

We've determined that the buyer should receive a refund, once we've confirmed that the item has been returned to you. The item should be in the same condition as when the buyer received it.

The following delivery address was provided to the buyer:

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
What to Do Next

We'll provide online tracking information to you, once we receive it from the buyer. You can confirm receipt of the returned item in the Resolution Centre. If we don't hear from you, we’ll confirm the delivery using the tracking information.

Once we've confirmed that you received the returned item, we'll reverse the refund amount to the buyer.

Yours sincerely,
PayPal

Congratulations on your first eBay shafting
Message is just saying you're going to be out of pocket the refund and any postage. But you will be the proud owner of a broken console which may or may not be yours. Least you get your game back.. Unless they have kept that just to rub it in

Taking note of the serial number is for when you inevitably get shafted and get sent a broken one back atleast you can compare with the one you originally sent.

and if they accept that as proof.

then you could have a big stack of broken playstations and one good one.

take the pictures of the good serial then send out the broken ps3.

if they send it back you say look ebay different serial.

ebay let you keep money?

but i have the feeling ebay would go sorry serial isnt proof for just this reason

Correct. I have had this with Ebay before. If the picture of the serial number wasnt put in the advert then they dont care as they say you could have just downloaded it since.

It really is just a buyers market.

Throw in buyers now have 6 months to report faults. Ive seen cases where brand new stuff has been sold, used by buyer for 5 months until they break and then claim a full refund.

eBay resolution as they call it is total BS for genuine sellers.

Only option left to you is to appeal once you receive the item (if it is truly a scam)

Keep the thread updated, will be very helpful to other users
