Oculus Employees: "Preemption for context switches is best on AMD, Nvidia possibly catastrophic"

Love these threads. I'm seeing more and more AMD fanboys posting only positive AMD news.

AMD = Best thing since sliced bread.
Nvidia = Panic, run for the hills, you're doomed.

I've got that right, havent I ?
Yes, because posting good news is a what only fanboys do. This being a thread of enthusiasts where people often want to make sure they are informed, buying with future proofing in mind and also matching current needs then surely the information is of some importance? Oh wait, it's not swinging in Nvidia's favour like when we had threads about share prices on a graphics card section :? You'd only be rustled by good news if you had buyers remorse, was a fanboy yourself or had some dislike of AMD that made you not want to see them have good news.

We've seen plenty of negative comments towards AMD so why is it so hard to accept some positive?

I have no problem with any positive news. I do think though that this section should be split.

Is this a hardware issue or a driver issue?

There's an ongoing discussion on this on Overclock.net.
According to Mahigan Nvidia Async shaders are software based.

So it is software driven, but that's not shocking. The nVIDIA scheduler has two segment in software, the Grid Management Unit and the Work Distributor. The Asynchronous Warp Schedulers are in the SMMs however (hardware).

There's no need to split this sub forum into different sections if people would post in the right manner. As opposed to the trolling, baiting and general garbage that gets bandied about by the hardcore defenders of both brands.

No-one is going to change though. I know I'm not, I just need to be less pro Nvidia and I know I wont be banned. If I call Nvidia the best company in the world in an Nvidia section it would probably be a bit cringe, call Nvidia the best in an AMD section and I'd be trolling. See the diff ?

Say it in any section and you'd still be lying ;D

Funny that you and many others had no problem with Nvidia fanboy's posting about AMD losing marketshare, Stock price dropping, AMD restricting review samples, etc, yet get all ruffled when some news that can potentially affects a lot of people gets posted.

The news may be deemed positive or negative depending on which side of the fence you sit.

I don't think that would help, unless you also had software that detected which card your was using and stopped you from going onto the other side then what would stop others coming on anyway?

It seems good news on Nvidia side (discussing gameworks for example) is accepted but discussing good news on AMD side (VR / Async support) is somehow trolling / requires the boards be split lest the heathens among the Nvidia crowd be swayed towards the dark depths of AMD? like fs123 said, I never see you guys bat an eye when we see anti-amd posts whether hardware or software or even just general crap but I see a lot of people who do behave like the Nvidia defence force and regularly jump out to criticise even unbiased and developer focused comments like these.

I like Lambchop and what you see is what you get. He doesn't beat around the bush and I can't fault his passion. Some here need to chill and I don't see the same people jumping on Lambchop jumping on Shankly or Flopper for being a hardcore AMD fan. For the record, I like Shankly and Flopper and like what they post.

Probably because Shankly and Flopper post more than simple troll attempts, regardless of their GPU preferences :)

Wouldn't say am hardcore fan, don't even run the latest amd hardware. I just like amd much more as a business and how they approach things towards pc gaming..

I also have nothing against some of nvidia there hardware is quality. But I do disagree with a lot there business practices. I feel they got off very lightly with titanx and so soon 980ti pricing, I would be super mad if I bought titanx.

Anyways I won't get into all this me vs nvidia vs amd because this isn't the correct thread.. But I do have my reasons and least I can say that. :D

Nope, There's hardly any AMD fanboys left, the bread got burned.

Nvidia's relaxing soaking up the sales while waiting for the next round of GW's/AwolAS to crush their gpu's.:p

It's all good brothers and I hope at the end of it, we are all gamers at heart and want our fellow gamers to enjoy a game unbroken and running well regardless of brand. I am looking forward to the Rift or the Vive (whichever I can get my grubby hands on first) and if it is poo on Nvidia, AMD here I come (again) :D

I hate both nv and amd, heck I hate Intel as well. I just hate big corporations in general. Power to the people comrades.:D

I will probably get hold of one, but just like the DK1 and 2 I will probably shift it quick if it is as I suspect.

Yeah I contemplated the DKs, but then I thought it might jade my opinion of the retail. I'd rather just wait for the retail - that's essentially when they go "ok, the biggest improvements are done - there could only little tweaks to be made".
I'm the same with movies and games, I don't do trailers or demos anymore - if I want a game/movie I get it and then form an opinion, plus I don't want any spoilers :P

The resolution is the main thing that needs improving, having seen both 1080p and 1440p, I don't think 1200p is going to be good enough even with different optics, it needs to be 4K to have text that is readable in game, and if you can't read text that gives you a rough idea of what level of detail you get... It is more like playing an xbox360 / Lego game than it is what we are used to on PC

You have to be really excited about VR to be able to ignore the massive drop in quality
